That’s the biggest thing with it, I also think this section is a bit too hard on @Thrice sometimes, especially today since he’s basically just reiterating your last sentence.

Abel is no longer 20 years old anymore, he no longer thinks like a 20 year old, and will not make the same music a 20 year old made. He’s evolved way past that, and either you tag along for the ride or you don’t lol

I think now overall the fanbase has accepted to appreciate whatever he is doing right now in the moment instead of constantly appreciating what he did in retrospect. I'd say up until star boy there was just a good portion of fans that were constantly wishing he was doing the album he did before.

I will ALWAYS wonder what Abel’s career trajectory would have been if Kiss Land wasn’t panned/hated by his fans on release. I’m sure it’d be similar to where we’re at now since he has always wanted to be a superstar from jump street, but still an interesting thought.

Still his best project when you really lay everything out on the table. He hasn’t quite been able to recapture the same magic, although there’s 2 projects he’s released that I feel come close in Kissland and MDM but still, this was a situation where it just felt like all the perfect elements aligned to manifest it and it’s always difficult to recreate that no matter who you are or what you do. It’s funny because I honestly didn’t like it first time I heard it. Sonically, it was too jarring. You had this guy doing his best MJ impression over portishead trip hop beats about f***ing hoes and doing d****. I just didn’t know what to make of it lmao it was actually The Knowing video that completely changed my perception of this project
