people say this constantly about artists like doja cat or ice spice but then dont have an answer for why actual white industry plants bomb constantly
i think a more interesting conversation is why exactly female artists get all this s*** and critique for using their bodies to promote and sell their music, when being attractive and having s***appeal is essentially a perennial aspect of any music superstar lmao
literally just about any global act you can think of is attractive in one way another, Prince, Michael Jackson, Jimi Hendrix, Bowie, hell Selena (the Spanish singer) like there’s a thousand examples
i don’t get why it’s such a one sided issue just for women
Let’s keep it a bean - people only fw her because she’s light skin
Only? You must be stupid
7 pages of discussion over a lie (op) and a “pop singer” on a rap forum
Having just checked the Apple Music charts,
KTT only exists to talk about s*** they could talk about on Twitter
Tell me this - why doesn’t Kashdoll get the amount of attention Doja gets? Because she had a lighter complexion
because Kash Doll never made Say So dumbass

its a one sided issue for women in discourse because even outside of entertainment value is largely prescribed to women by society (subconsciously or otherwise) based on aesthetics/appearance. this isn't to say male value isn't also defined by such, but the "hero journey" archetype (or comparable) is a traditionally male-focused system, so in the collective unconscious people arent really applying outside values to female artists unless they go extremely actively out of their way to distinguish themselves as not playing into such - men dont have to make that immediate distinction, they have the more fluid freedom to not have that assumption made about them but also take advantage of people's draw to aesthetics. when female artists play into sexuality, its not seen as a duality or parallel to a value system - it's seen directly as playing into that aesthetic value solely, ironically even by people who may otherwise decry typecasting women as sexual objects. sexual prowess or attractiveness from women is essentially seen culturally as in and of itself intrinsic value whereas for men its seen as an aspect of a wider presentation
Could she continue to drop her normal music you can rap we get it..but do we need it? No
proving s*** that don’t need to be proved
doja was outrapping most of y’all favs before she even popped off properly

because Kash Doll never made Say So dumbass
Kash Doll made “Ice Me Out” which is imo on par with Ice Spice “Say So”
dude thinks calling doja light skinned and essentially “not black enough” is some form of ally ship
I’m a history major the light skinned hierarchy goes back to the days of segregation and even periods before that
Kash Doll made “Ice Me Out” which is imo on par with Ice Spice “Say So”
it’s not
it’s not
Depends on your circle I mean Doja is alright I guess but she’s falling off. Not saying she’s but but she has a unfair advantage

I think an audience of men would watch Sylvester Stallone or Arnie be glistening beefcakes and regard their aesthetics objectively, but not sexually. At least not consciously.
With women, they can't appreciate the aesthetic without acknowledging the sexuality, and that feels like a contaminant.
So a "purely aesthetic appeal" will always be the realm of the male.
