I’m kind of curious though because I think the school of thought is pretty binary that this is either terrible or a great thing, where do you ideally see things going? I’m kind of in the middle on this topic. I think it’s important that hip hop has some viability commercially because that helps garner interest and exposure to the next generation but I also think it’s clearly been over-saturated and we’ve been scraping the barrel for years now. I don’t think there’s any “putting it back in the box” so to speak because it is a mainstream genre so I feel like a best case scenario would be interesting

Hip-hop doesn't need commerciality to thrive creatively, but it's definitely a lot more fun when it's popping culturally

I said it before the current Atlanta-centric era needs to be over already.

No offense to them guys but they been runnin the same playbooks for over a decade. And every new rapper runs to them for features then fall off in 3 business days.

    Being from there I agree.

But also, other regions need to step the f*** up.

New York's mainstream decline is something nobody on this forum wanna talk about.

  • Everyone has been telling me this is a good thing

We've showed you the information numerous times yet you keep acting like it doesn't exist

  • Ghetto Lenny

Those are artists that have been in the game since the early 2010’s. We know there are still super starts but the genre is not producing any new ones. Thats the problem.

Don Toliver, Ken Carson and Carti literally on arena tours

21 savage just did a $42M tour last year

Rod Wave has 3 #1 albums and multiple arena tours

Doechii had a huge year last 2 years plus Glorilla

    ya’ll gotta stop it man

I also think people automatically think mid automatically means bad. I'm actually using mid in its proper term

Travis just did a stadium IN AFRICA and Cole about to follow with Dot doing stadiums in South America and Asia but hiphop is dead man you niggas f***ing got it

You always bring up venue sizes for 40 year old rappers when we have these discussions

Their cemented success has no correlation to the lack of interest in NEW hip-hop music by NEW hip-hop artists

that has not ALWAYS HAPPENED again, framing s*** that don’t exist. hiphop niggas weren’t doing stadiums and 70+ show arena concerts every other year can ya’ll PLEASE STOP THIS BULLSHIT BRUH hiphop is fine

Specifically making the requirement stadium tours when its travis kendrick and cole (2 of the big 3 and mcdonalds fortnite man) is one thing but niggas like 50, Wu Tang, Em, etc and that type of artist the narrative has always been that when they fall off in America they still have years of being able to do shows and tours in Europe and Africa

Where/how the f*** do you think Tony Yayo is eating caviar pancakes nigga lol

the fact we gotta add juicy j and TI and KRIT (one of my favorite artists of all time but his peak has long passed) to this list of great rap albums is proof this is been a mid year

and I loved that tape and Kenny Mason's album. If not for familial tragedy I would've went to see him live that week he came up to nyc.

Kenny Mason not being more popular is a shame.
