i think to be a “cool rapper” now is to have the spirit of 2pac, the rapping ability of kendrick, and the aesthetic of carti. once a nigga is able to combine all of the above it’s over

Overall tho Hip Hop isn't a black genre or black culture anymore it's really not our thing even if we make the most of it so you can't really compare modern Hip Hop with previous Hip Hop at all.

I kind of wanted to make this thread before and kind of ask about the "de-blackening" of rap music and death of Hip Hop culture but Idk what it would even look like.

The de-blackening of hip hop is a good way to put it. Like I said, what new slang words we even got from hip hop? I would even argue that a lot of young people idea of “cool” is lame. I feel like the internet has made it corny to compliment and big somebody up because it’s looked at as “glazing” but slandering somebody dead relative in a Twitter argument get you all the retweets. Too much cornball Jamal behavior being promoted

This cool but the issue is its trying to "restore the feeling" using one of objectively the coolest songs we grew up with.

Nobody is creating that feeling of them being themselves and cool --- its just pluck and play formulas (let me be mysterious like Carti or act like another variation of Future)

I will say bruh got his own movement. They been pushing peace in Texas, his hairstyle been a popular thing for people to get, and I can tell he not tryna be too influenced to do dumb s***. But overall I do agree with what you saying

That Cade Cunningham s/o made sense to me because you'd expect him to be a boring dude but when you see how he actually is & how he talks he seems like he might be a cool dude

i hear you. do you think the word you're looking for is boring? There is an element of novelty to a naive audience that will propell the next gen but theres also something that seemed sonically unique about say the 2016 xxl class. n id also think there was a connection with the previous gen of rappers? and that overlap kinda gives some semblance of continuity in the genre with hints of a monoculture. think that fails to be the case rn but for a number of reasons

lowkey i'm p out of touch with new stuff partially cus I can't tell what theyre saying and i think its a lil...bland. i can't find myself to thing anything fakemink says is cool or that he says it in a cool way but the beats r ok. IDK!

Kinda upset that black american sauce has been basically outsourced to the U.K. underground and they're dogwalking our new acts.

No this is not a FBA or anti-diasporic dog whistle but it something to observe

You gotta be careful when you say stuff like this though fam
A statement that can be interpreted to put down some black Americans & big up some non black Americans in their place is just fuel to the fire of anger in them FBA/ADOS niggas hearts

but also... Eff black immigrants who do actually disparage & look down on black Americans because they don't understand racial discrimination & systemic racism as much because they grew up in all black places

had to clarify, to keep them ADOS/FBA 🦝 off my back
