This genre wont die but too many people came into the genre to use it for another purpose. It f***ed everything up. Plus people that don’t really enjoy this genre. I hope those people back away.

Someone said it best but most (males) dropped 2021 and 2022. I think second half is gonna be all females mainly (Ice, Nicki, Cardi, Doja, maybe Meg etc)

2019 was largely an off year. Most people dropped 2018 and 2020.

not having a rap #1 song or album is a stupid metric but this is largely an off year for men in rap.

Commercially the genre itself is losing popularity in the mainstream. That doesn’t mean the genre is dying.

In terms of legit great mainstream male rappers, what was the last good year? 2021?

Too many people are stuck on the idea of hip hop needing billboard/commercial validation to admit it’s losing steam.

That’s not a knock at the genre, every genre goes thru it’s ebbs and flows I’m not sure why ppl thought hip hop would be any different

If you can’t discern between mainstream losing popularity (that doesn’t mean Drake and future won’t still have smash hits) they are superstars, and rap in general having the same pop culture chokehold it did on America like 2016-2020

I would contend the next popular genre with rap listening youth is something like Plugg, which I don’t think will distill down into contemporary America for a while
