If anything hip hop is one of the few where loosies/non album tracks have always carried weight
Artists in that era couldn’t build a fanbase unless they consistently made great projects.
That is no longer how to build a fanbase

Yes but not because of albums.
What do you mean?
Yeah their fans were buying albums, and those albums had one or two singles that would become smash songs over the radio that would obviously garner mainstream attention
Exact same as in rap.. or any other genre. Some singles blow up and most end up being deep cuts on the album
Just because you only heard them off the couple mainstream songs doesn’t mean anything
I mean Ariana alone had huge momentum for her albums, esp Dangerous Women.

Read the og post u replied to again. I said covid f***ed the schedule of many of the mainstream act, pushing them to drop all relatively in the same year.
2021 and 2022 aren't normal rap years, where an album is out almost every week. Which is why this year is so dry so far because like u said most of them already dropped recently
