This had all the ingredients to be one of them ones but absolutely none of the execution
They could’ve done so so so so much more with this film. The ingredients were all there.
I feel many elements of the movie were pretty good and then the story was just completely nothing
I dont really care that the CTE angle wasnt gone in depth...but that ending was f\*\*\*ing terrible. I just wish there was more buildup of the grooming by the devils in his childhood or something. It all felt like it was happenin too quick? It might needed to be longer. But yeah. that ending was stupid
7/10 still tho
i guess they hinted that he sacrificed or was sacrificed to be trained by Cam?? that’s what im saying about we needed like 20 more mins because they just threw s*** out there without elaborating lol
Yes exactly
Marlon Wayans in this film though
The visual identity of the movie and premise of it is so good but I see what everyone is saying. The plot felt undercooked. Another 20 minutes could of really fleshed it out.
Such a shame because it was close to doing what it needed to do, but by the ending I was confused on the direction of it all and not in a good way
Movie needed a way better writer and story
Couples of random thoughts:
-The injury that Cam has in the beginning of the film was... strange. Super quick and glossed over. I guess it was a crazed fan, like one of those weirdos outside of Isaiah's compound? But it was never really made clear, and what was made even less clear was Cam's view point of fans after the incident. If Cam really has no opinion on intense toxic fan culture, why make that the cause of his injury rather than just football (a sport known for head injuries)? Also strange that we never see Cam attempt to play football after the injury. He does avoid the combine, but we don't really know if he would be able to perform or not.
-I really liked the the initial scenes at the compound, basically everything up until the passing drill sequence. That sequence was great and visceral and made sense as an sadistic football drill for a quarterback. But...
-After that sequence, basically nothing is relevant or specific to quarterbacking or football. Like does he even do another football related drill after that? And all of the "chapters" after that are essentially pointless, make no sense, and have nothing to do with the events of the day. Like seriously they ran out of ideas after "poise".
-Sauna sequence is where the movie went off the rails for me. So strange. Isaiah leaves the sauna, and we see the temperature start to go up? Idk it was implying that somehow Cam was going to be trapped in there with rising temps. That never happens. Instead one of the crazed fans attacks him in there, prompting Cam to fight back and then Isaiah to actually kill her. Idk I did not think Cam's reaction to this made any sense and this entire sequence was just kind of forgotten about and glossed over. The entire toxic fandom aspect of this was so undercooked and cringe.
-The shooting range scene was also very strange. They clearly brought a body out for them to shoot at, and I guess implied it was the woman from the previous day? But wasn't she already dead? Cam also has basically no reaction to this or shooting at a body.
-Fight to the death climax was horrible. Maybe this is just me, but how the f*** is a football horror film about quarterbacks not going to end in some kind of football related sequence? Shouldn't they be battling with their football skills to see who is actually better? Isn't that what all that training was for? A fight to the death is lazy, boring, and not the natural conclusion to this story in my opinion. The additional violence at the end with the owners also nonsensical and cringe.
-What exactly is Julia Fox's role in this scheme lol?
-The killing of the doctor was super vague and unclear to me.
-The entire ritual and contract and all that was too vague for me.
-Feel like we needed more highlight of how good Isaiah was at football? Him crushing the drills, being better than Cam, showing what was to be gained?
-There was another agreement between the owner and Cam's dad? I honestly did not catch or understand this. But like, what? How does that make any sense lol.
The injury at the beginning was talked about at the end of the movie. The cult did it so they can groom him. Injury prevents him from going to the combine, which puts him in place to accept zay offer to train
Ngl… I enjoyed this
but I fully understand why people most people absolutely did NOT lmaoooo

If the biggest thing I'm hearing about a movie is that a lot of people don't like, that's not good

The fact that Peele could've had Weapons but has his name attached to this instead is hilarious
Theres a really good movie in here amongst all these ideas but this one needed a little bit more time to bake. I enjoyed all the performances though.

My thoughts exactly, seems like they just freestyled a good bit of this
Seeing so many people give this negative reviews and disappointed at this “Jordan Peele” film. Bro didn’t direct or write this movie whatsoever. People are dumb I swear lol

Your average moviegoer doesn’t understand the difference between “produced by” and “directed by” and think its a Jordan peele film
Studios know this. Slapping Peeles name on all the marketing was done very intentionally for this exact purpose. Huge red flag btw. Every time they market a movie that way it’s always a stinker
Honestly pretty aight, idk why everybody's deciding to call this one so s***
This would've been better if it wasn't a lean 90 mins tho, if they gave essentially every scene more time to breathe it would've been more effective
i guess they hinted that he sacrificed or was sacrificed to be trained by Cam?? that’s what im saying about we needed like 20 more mins because they just threw s*** out there without elaborating lol
I think they said the father did that because Cam was "thinking about quitting". And sacrificed himself so Cam could be in good graces with the cult or what have you
