thank you, this is what im looking for. onto more research then
yeah no doubt. if you search up cuba embargo in the search you’ll get a bunch of viewpoints. you can try other keywords as well
i’m ill informed on this topic and just trying to get a better understanding from actual cubans who live there and it’s been mixed.
there’s 2 sides. both say that the embargo is an issue and should be lifted, but one side is putting more blame on the cuban government and saying that even if the embargo is lifted, it wouldn’t solve the problems in cuba because the embargo excludes food and medical supplies, and that the cuban government pays people in pesos but some of the major stores sell goods in USD. but i’ve heard more from the other side saying that people in cuba are happy and live good, they just want the embargo lifted. idk what to make of it
it doesn't exclude medical supplies that's for sure they're running on a deficit for syringes for vaccines because of the embargo

yeah just seen someone else say that my bad
Whoa I thought the Hong Kong protests were real s***? Wasn't most of this site rooting for them?
the HK protests were 100% US-funded
notice how they completely stopped when China banned the US payments

Hong kong protests were both real and US funded
They're not mutually exclusive
Hong Kong is entitled to self determination. I know many Hong Kongers who say the CCP and British both need to f*** off

So kinda same with Cuba? They got their own problems and US swoops on to x3 itself

the cuban protesters are for the most part not happy with certain domestic policy- they dont want an end to the socialist state- it's a bit different
whereas in hong kong the issue is somewhat more existential- where many hong kongers feel that an external body is robbing them of freedoms

how do you know cubans dont want an end to socialism?
how do you know cubans dont want an end to socialism?
polls have the current socialist consitution supported by i think approximately 70% of cubans, i dont have it on hand but i think it's a clear majority
perhaps this figure is inaccurate, but im inclined to believe the regime is popular in some form
reform is a differenr desire to wanting a totally new system- im sure even if most cubans wanted change, a plurality would want change to process and governance rather than the full economic system

A thread I made with some interesting answers on the viewpoints of those who love the US or don't like Cuba

You keep asking the wrong people the wrong questions. The answers in this thread look like they could be written straight out of the US state department. Take the top guy, "oh they were carrying american flags"
Almost as if the US has a hand in some of these protests, and certainly the narrative around them lol. These people are also ignoring that the counter, pro-government protests were much larger and more diverse than the original protests, because again, most Cubans support their government and know full well what the revolution has brought them.

This is obviously gonna be kinda skewed since its mostly people talking on behalf of cubans and not actual cubans, and most cubans who would answer this kinds of questions are florida-based/immigrant cuban-americans who would default to hating Cuba to begin with.
Although I will say I've been to a lot of places where you always here you'd think people would hate the US (I've been to parts of ME & North Africa) and most people definitely do not. Or in the very least if they hate the US, they hate the US as a concept and not Americans as a people (like collectively).

Well I don't have direct contact with cubans lol, so I made a general thread in a latin subreddit. I already knew it was some Miami cubans answering in the thread. But I already got enough views from them now.

i don't think there's many places that actually hate the US as a people as you said, if any. Most of it is just more US propaganda used mostly in modern times to justify the war on terror ofc

Yeah I wasn't saying they were, I was more saying I think a lot of Americans "expect" themselves to be hated and in my personal travel and integration experiences that hasn't been the case.
If anything there is a strong culture of keeping the US & US-Government as very separate entities and if there is a hatred it defaults on the latter and it's not something which they want to bring up with actual Americans themselves if they harbor those feelings. It's something I think Americans themselves/ourselves should really learn from in constructuring worldviews because all too often some sects of Americans just ignorantly presume all people, government, etc. to be some type of homogenous collective.
Yeah I don't feel bad for the Cubans waving American flags hoping for any real change by America lmaaaooo
wow
Wasn’t that reported already? I’m usually a bit slow with reporting. But yeah, like the worst move possible on bidens part rn tbh. George Bush moves out here.

There’s not much besides sanctions that america can really do and those never seem to bring real change. Likely this whole move was just a way for Biden to save face, I doubt he’d be delusional enough to suppose this has any positive effect. If they were hoping for an armed invasion then that would be even worse. The real change should come from cuba itself
Why is all mention in the title of these protests being anti-communist removed by the way? A large majority of the major news outlets report the same, but whoever edited the title failed to even include one of the main reasons of the protests, if not the most important reason why these protests are making headlines worldwide. In fact, it has been specifically cut out. I know a lot of communists in this thread have been fervently opposed to the reality that there are cubans protesting against communism and the regime, and KTT is a communist echo-chamber in general, but that doesn’t make reality any less so. Or does it?
theyre protesting covid response? cmon man looool its so interesting to watch you guys lie to each other blatantly. its the wildest s*** man
