Back in the day i was all in for a pop weeknd album, he deserved the shine. I was happy af with ICFMF because even tho the song was kinda corny and very poppy it was a really catchy and solid track, the moment i heard the leak on ktt1 i knew it was gonna be a hit.
BUT, i thought his plan was dropping pop singles for the masses and the album was gonna be full of artistic godly music for the og fans. Feel me? , perfect plan, balanced for all kinds of fans.
I was wrong and bbtm had plenty filler, a couple of good singles and diet trilogy songs. Really mid s*** if we compare it to his past work.
Starboy was gonna be "different" and i expected alternative revolutionary pop. I like it more than bbtm but it has a lot of filler too and nothing trilogy tier.
MDM was the only thing that kept me a stan so i literally expected nothing from this era. Now he is doing worst than his last eras, not only the music is mid, is also not hitting with the masses as expected. Whats the point of selling out then?
The aesthetic is god tier tho better than any mixtape era or kiss land tbh. The music does leave something to be desired though yeah. I like BL but it definitely needed more sonic experimentation, I listen to it and expect it and it never comes

I like trilogy aesthetics a lil more but yeah, thats the only pretty good thing.
Fr, the production and Abel's vocals are always nice but feels like it coulda been better. Weeknd needs to take risks.

yeah the singles basically got the "The Hills" treatment, while they're only on the level of "Party Monster" Can't roll out an album on the strength of a low level hit

Rihanna scrapped a couple of the early singles for Anti (or R8 as it was known at the time) after they didn't get enough hype, but they weren't bombs or anything... B**** Better Have My Money even had hype, but it wasn't enough. When she came back with Work it was a smash and it was a good thing she went back in the studio.
Could definitely see Abel doing something similar if Heartless and Blinding Lights keep underperforming.
