He speaks of his wife with unparalleled esteem, but hardly even hesitated to kill her to obtain a child. And now in the second episode he is full of uncertainty whether to marry (because no one can replace his dead wife). But if his number one priority was always to have a male child, shouldn't he want to get married as soon as possible? Mf tells Rhaenyra "you are my heiress!" Where was this energy before? didn't that solution occur to you before you killed the supposed love of your life?

You’ve just described him being consistently torn between wanting a male heir v loving/being content with his family, which also carries on into e3, so I wouldn't really call it inconsistent
