i’d unironically say
riverdale s2 > euphoria s2
i be hating
them first few seasons of riverdale is peak
I ain't seen in years but you prolly right
Can we discuss spoilers in here? My boy and I thought of two really different paths this show could take
yeah
i liked the look of S1 more than S2 tbh
S2 had that dumb Indie grain over almost everything ain’t it?
I feel like we're having a Walking Dead situation, where because of a bunch of behind the scenes meddling, we ended up getting a completely different show after season one (or in Euphoria's case, DURING season two), and now we'll never get to experience the original version of what the show was always supposed to be.

The entire season was filmed on Ektachrome. Film always has a grainy look, any show or movie that is shot with film will be grainy tbh
But it sounds you like you just prefer things filmed in digital

I’m not surprised you prefer a purely digital look to film ngl. Side note, while the ektachrome of season 2 is gorgeous (it wasn’t an indie grain filter either, it was old school film that Kodak brought back in stock just for season 2, how are you in film sxn regularly and don’t know this is mind boggling), the digital look of season 1 actually fits the show’s entire identity better
It’s like season 2 was made around the fact that Sam Levinson wanted to film in ektachrome tbh, and he retrofitted all the characters and the atmosphere to serve that. Would explain the focus on aesthetic over story a lot of the time too

i do remember that Kodak stuff but i honestly just forgot about it cause i didn’t really care bout it besides “neat”
i like the film look but mostly on older films not always on newer stuff and it didn’t fit euphoria at all it just made the show look boring
Personally I'm obsessed with season 2's look. I'd hang some of these on my wall

giggling that Sam would show up to set without a shot list

Yes it's insane that Sam had absolutely no storyboards for the show
But I also read that HBO was rushing Sam to film the season, and also Sam had basically started rewriting the whole season during covid lockdowns. And he prolly wasn't able to finish the rewrites because HBO wanted to get things rolling . Which means no time for storyboarding
So between half baked rewrites and rushed production, the season was always doomed to fail

I mean the show has been visually stunning since its inception (think that first scene with Rue in that party).
However, I feel like for what they provided in upping the visuals even more in S2 is what they let other areas falter.
Even some of these moments aren't really too essential besides providing edit/stills potential
Did anyone really care about Kat’s story of her being a s*** anyway? She didn’t really add anything to the main plot so I don’t see this as a big loss

This is why you should have multiple writers to work with. I don’t know why Sam continues to do it on his own

Yuppp, Sam keeps sabotaging himself smh.
Zendaya said she'd be very hands on with the writing for season 3 which is a good sign that Sam isn't doing it all.
But they need to just hire a writers room
really haven’t f***ed with kat as a character either season so I don’t mind that she’s leaving tbh
