The Nate and Cal storyline...I'm completely lost on how that turned out. He's loading the gun for what. The USB has "everything" but how can it be proven that those videos weren't taped under the consent of all parties. And if it's just Jules' video that's "everything" (since that would be a major offense), when did Nate have his change of heart to screw Jules over after giving her the "only copy"? After being humiliated at the play? He was playing Jules the whole time? I don't get it.

At the very least it hurts his dad’s image to be known as someone who solicits prostitutes.

Also keep in mind a large part of the audience wouldn’t have been satisfied unless something happened to the guy. So it’s probably just fanservice even though it makes no legal sense.

semi realistic? did you miss the first season with its whole episode of Zendaya being a noir detective and a huge musical number to end the finale?

I meant more about the realistic depiction of d*** use/addiction

Yeah, that's the angle that I was f***in with when it first got introduced. Cal being outed and how it would ruin his family, the shame of it all. But Cal already did that himself and seemed to be making a life transition. So other than possible legal percussions, I can't really see the purpose/fallout of it besides Nate bringing himself even more shame. But I'll wait on next season to see how they shape that narrative

  • Zendaya talks way too mf much in this show I swear

I read it as that hard drive having footage of Cal sleeping with underage children too

filming without consent is a crime as well tho

Faaacts if that little scuffle was rhe only capitulation of all the tension built up between them then colour me disappointed

Is there any reasonable way to turn Jules into the addict now that Rue is "clean"? I mean she has the issues with her mom, now all the s*** she went through with Rue. It doesn't have to be the hard d**** Rue was doing necessarily, but even alcohol or other addiction? Sex? Like somehow they move away from Rue and make Jules into the f***ed up one.

I'm seeing people think it should be Gia assuming a role like that if anything, but I disagree. We're not invested in her.

  • Feb 28, 2022

Funniest s*** of this season was maddy hugging rue and twitter going "omg they're such good friends"

They had like 2 scenes together and in season 1 maddy thought rue died over the summer

From what I remember of the footage we've seen, Jules was the only underage participant and she's even on tape lying about her age. I'd hope if they were planning to go that angle of him being a serial offender that they would include more details of that, but yeah you never know with TV. Could be possible

Yeah I mentioned the consent thing in my other post I don't see how they'd be able to prove that but that's also valid.

People need to stop thinking that Cal was a pedo. He wasn’t. Jules clearly tells him she’s 22 in the first episode, and you can see he’s visibly shocked and shook when he finds out she’s a high schooler in the carnival episode.

Yeah it’s still illegal because she’s underage, but he was under the impression that she was a legal adult. He wouldn’t have had s***with her if she didn’t tell him she was 22.

  • Feb 28, 2022

Next season should focus on Jules or Nate tbh, what are they gonna do with a clean Rue besides eventually get her back on that stuff

except there were multiple allusions to Cal being a pedo all season

even in the finale, though it was left a bit ambiguous, Nate said he had nightmares of Cal raping him every night. that seemed pretty clear to me

There weren’t any allusions to that what are you talking about?

And Nate clearly said he specifically had nightmares of that because he was scarred from what he saw on those videos. You can tell by Nate’s delivery of the line and Cal’s reaction that Cal never actually molested him

What else happened? I really don't think there was like a standout scene for me this episode

Which is interesting since I loved the last episode. I thought the play stuff was silly after a while. Cassie should've just blew it up and it ended there. The scene with Rue's funeral speech was necessary for Rue to come to her realizations at the end, but I was just really bored at that point man. Had to rewind Rue and Lexi's ending convo cause I was falling asleep.

Absolutely nothing happened in the entire episode.

And it’s funny you said that about the Rue and Lexi scene because everyone I’ve talked to said they were tuning out when that scene was on

Nah. It was pretty clear cut that Nate's big life changing moment at age 11 was that he discovered those videos and it made him view s***(and his father) in the ways that it has. No real allusions to Cal touching him at all, despite the fan base running with that all season. Which is fair since they left it ambiguous, but yeah

the scene with Nate talking to his mom and her saying he was such a nice boy but then at like age 11 everything changed

maybe it was just because he saw his dad's tapes, maybe his dad started molesting him. it's definitely left open for interpretation and shouldn't be objectively disqualified like you're doing

you weren't in the writers room lol

It pisses me off that like 95% of the fanbase for this show thinks Cal is this evil pedo monster, it just shows that no one is actually paying attention to what’s happening on screen

  • Feb 28, 2022

I will say this though. Episode 7 should've been appreciated more after seeing this s***

All the s*** that folks can suspend their belief for, but people were so focused on "the budget of a high school play"

It’s not left open for interpretation, Nate literally explicitly says what happened in the finale

You don’t think if Cal actually touched him Nate wouldn’t have brought it up to him when he was about to turn him in? Think logically here. He specifically only mentioned seeing the tapes, and then only imagined Cal doing that to him too because he was scarred by it. There’s no mention, no subtext, no hint, no anything implying that Cal actually touched him. It’s literally clear as day.

The fanbase for this show wants Cal to be this evil monster when he really isn’t whatsoever
