Yes, tribalism and moral inconsistency is present on both sides. That’s a reflection of society, not some kind of ranking or equivalence of evil. The point with the Biden thing was that it was also considered a baseless conspiracy theory by the left until it wasn’t. Even though, it should have been evident to everyone the entire time. It was pure selective blindness. Does the selective blindness on the right lead to worse outcomes for us than selective blindness on the left? Most definitely. But that doesn’t justify having selective blindness anywhere.

Of course Hasan is going to justify his treatment of the dog. If you don’t think forcing a dog to sit in one spot for hours daily and taking action if it moves is at least borderline abusive, then we just have a difference of opinion. You can frame that as a “strict schedule so she doesn’t lay on the floor” but the actions remain the same.

I fully agree with you. All those things are super f***ed up. And I do also agree that the reason that right wing streamers et al are so interested in this particular story is fully in bad faith and couldn’t care less about the dog. It’s easy to expect.

But similarly, many people defending Hasan are also only doing so because it’s Hasan. If the same exact story down to every last detail was about XQC or Adin Ross, the same people defending Hasan would be on the other side making electrocution memes.

It’s been like that for years.

I do agree with that aspect of it.

The difference for me personally is, I care for stray animals in my free time and I genuinely do not believe the shock stuff or that Hasan is cruel to animals whatsoever.

I've seen him raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for animal sanctuaries, Ukraine victims, trans people, abortion rights, Palestine and numerous other causes.

I mean shock collars exist and are sold and bought. Some people believe it’s a legitimate form of dog training. I don’t think Hasan sets out to purposefully abuse his dog because he’s a sociopath or anything like that. But you can definitely find many people justifying the use of shock collars for certain situations, even though it’s generally frowned upon. I don’t think it’s that far fetched for him to use one in that manner.

You acted like it’s so evil that he chained his dog to an elevated bed to train him to use it, which is no different than an average person training their dog to stay in their crate while at work. Difference is he works from home and the crate is in view of the camera and now it’s “weirdo behavior” for him because he supposedly does it for the views? I think he does it for the dog’s health and I think you’re reaching for reasons to be rage. You took a clip when he talked about him training as proof but that’s him talking about training meanwhile someone itt who actually watches the s*** says the dog does get up and move around on stream.

I can drive five minutes and buy a shock collar. I had a coworker tell me she was planning on hitting her kids if they don’t listen. I was told you’re supposed to rub your dogs nose in piss if they pee inside. All of that s*** is wrong but I’m not in the business of judging the misguided thoughts and character of a twitch streamer I do not watch. I do not know anything about his dog. I do not know what health concerns his dog may have. I don’t need to know anything about his dog. I don’t believe anyone really cares like that. None of this s*** matters. It definitely does not deserve to be a month long story. A republican governor of her own volition wrote about how she shot her dog because she couldn’t be arsed to train it properly, and she was rewarded with becoming the head of homeland security. This is not a real controversy.

Meanwhile my friends and family are scared to walk around in this country without carrying their passport on them, and we’re going on a month talking about…the supposed hypocrisy of online nerds?

I never acted like it was “so evil”. I just think it’s weird and borderline abusive. Crating your dog all day is also weird and abusive. Those people shouldn’t be pet owners. You’re acting like I’m practicing exceptionalism when it comes to specifically Hasan and I’m not. Everything you listed, from beating your kids to shooting a dog, I also find horrible.

I agree that at the end of the day, whatever is going on with a streamers dog doesn’t really matter in the grand scheme of things. It’s more of the way that people react to things based on their baked in ideology or parasocial behavior that I’m drawn to.

But any time something like this comes up, people point to much worse issues as if simultaneous thought can’t possibly exist. Like if I’m talking about one topic, I somehow don’t think other topics are important. It’s just a false accusation, especially since I’ve only posted on topic in threads about it. It’s not like I’m going into the ICE thread or the Palestine thread or whatever and saying “hey what about Hasan’s dog?”

Yes, what’s going on with ICE is incredibly f***ed up and infinitely worse than whatever is going on with Hasan’s dog. It shouldn’t need to be stated. But at the same time, I don’t really see anyone on here caping for ICE. There’s really no debate to be had on that topic as 99% are in agreement here.

Simultaneous thought can exist, but why are you letting this story run through you for this long simultaneously with everything we have in this life?
