  • This was inspired by Thug saying Slime Language 3 was going to be some "2016 s***...barter 6 s***"

I feel like this is one of the most common traps / pitfalls artists fall into—trying to recreate a moment that has already come and gone. I understand the desire to do it but people need to realize that they can't go back in time, and it's better to channel whatever they have going on in the present into something new

Has an artist ever announced this or tried it, or done a sequel to an earlier project years later, and actually lived up to that?

  • For the most part its a marketing gimmick and the fans always fall for it

I remember when Drake used that to promote CLB and FATD.

Thank God he didn't say that for Iceman lol.

  • my opinion is that people revisit successful tropes in there music all the time (maybe they don’t always verbalize it) so yeah, it’s only now where there’s just way too much music being produced that you need a brand new hook (or gimmick) every time to hold public interest

in the way you're asking it. it basically just means this guy has no presence anymore and is making a deliberate ploy to existing fans

but in a broader scope it becomes a more difficult question @op because there's an argument that artistic trajectory isn't a linear thing.

I'm sure you as an artist knows that a lot of times when writing songs you use progressions/techniques that youve definitely used before to create similar feelings between songs, so i guess you're mileage may vary

Yeah I guess I'm thinking more about presentation than actual musical technique and sound. If you build upon a foundation you started with then that's totally fine and sometimes in music that can look like very subtle tweaks

The other part I didn't really mention in this video that maybe I should have is that for an artist to say they're bringing something back, it implies it left, or that they lost their way somewhere along the way. Which maybe is the requirement for this whole convo haha
