You can find and upgrade armor to change your stats, and customize it so your character looks how you want
You increase your HP and resolve (basically stamina) by completing tasks throughout the environment like finding hot springs and completing the bamboo mini games
You collect resources by exploring the environments and then spend the resources to upgrade tools, carrying capacity, weapons etc.
There are merchants to buy/sell goods
You can even choose what to say in conversations
These are all RPG elements
