The album's not trying to have "signature choruses" and their presence or absence shouldn't be a major contributing factor in whether the album succeeds or not. It's not trying to be a pop compilation album. Damon's lyricism on here is pretty stellar because in many ways that's the focus of a lot of these songs. The same criticisms you're throwing around could easily be levied at Plastic Beach and half of the band's other records.
Ragging on Damon's melody writing on an album with Moon Cave, Happy Dictator, Orange County (!!), Delirium, Plastic Guru, etc. is just plain wild my guy. All of those songs have very memorable choruses/melodies on an album that's not even prioritizing that lol
Idk man on first listen there’s no strong standouts on the level of an empire ants, broken or melancholy hill and the vocal delivery is a big reason why
You made a good case tho so imma agree to disagree till I listen a few more times
Nah bruh it may be cohesive but Damon Albarn is a huge weak link and just mumbles his way thru the album not leaving any real stand out song writing behind
Instrumentally album is great with the Indian vibes but Damon sounds the same basically all the way thru, monotone and dull af, doesn’t deliver any signature choruses on par with s*** like baby queen, just muttering and mumbling with a reference to the mountain here and there
Due to this the album is bottom 3 gorillas easily
Intro track is an instrumental and prolly the best thing on this weak ass album
How is Baby Queen the chorus you reference as a standard

(Baby Queen is a top tier Gorillaz song tho)

How is this what you got offended by lmaooooo. Baby queen is as vibey a gorillas song as there is wtf

Great song don't get me wrong. But the chorus isn't even the highlight of the song and nowhere in the realm of top Gorillaz hooks lol
Watched Damon's interview with Fantano and was pleased to hear that they're already cooking up the Big Idea for the next record, despite the finality of this one and its accompanying visuals.

I think they're going to soft reboot the characters as kids through reincarnation and I think that's been the plan for a while now. Exciting stuff.
Music and arrangements 9/10
Guests 6/10 brought down by great value bad bunny
Vocals 2/10 Damon has exact same monotone background in the mix vocals on every song with next to no real melodies or harmonies of note. sounds like he’s singing a bed time story to his kid only it’s putting him to sleep instead of the kid

I can't tell if I like this or Song Machine more since they're such different projects. But it's fantastic and in their top 5 for sure. Any combination of them makes sense.
