Palestinians are pretty secular as a people, even if I can only back it anecdotally
Does seem like Hamas is only popular during intense strife with the Israeli state but the secular PLO tends to win out when it is not as intense, and there is dissatisfaction among the population when Hamas is in power, recent protests show this
It may be changing with this recent event as a political calculation by Hamas to show Fatah’s PA as weak
