I suspect you think there is, in fact, no rightful division of land between Israel and Palestine (me as well, although of course I think the real outrage committed by the British was when they fomented Arab Revolt and destroyed the Ottoman Empire in the Near East), the problem is that even by 1945, ~30% (and for obvious reasons, growing) of the population thought that there must be a division of the land and was willing to use violence to achieve its goals (similar scenario to how Partition came about in India). We can say Partition (in both Palestine and India) was a mistake in hindsight, but, for this reason, at the time, it seemed like a good way to reduce bloodshed. To be frank, I'm not sure what exactly my fellow Redditors are saying, but I imagine and hope the point they're trying to get at is not that the 1948 plan was amazing, but that it's better than what has come since.

I would take a stronger stand against the idea that the main agents in 1948 were foreign powers... the Zionists exercised agency in forcing the State of Israel to be on the table (and bringing the West along for the ride), and the Palestinians exercised agency in rejecting the plan (and bringing the Arab states along for the ride). An interesting point is that the Soviet Union voted in favor of the plan, while Britain abstained. Zionists also fought an armed insurgency against the British, so I don't see Israel as an Anglo-American creation, nor do I think Hamas or Hezbollah are directed from Tehran... in fact, I would say that local actors are almost always the ones who put events into motion and force the "Great Powers" in Washington or London or Moscow to react, we see this as well with start of the Donbas War in 2014.

I do think that the framework of faith was much stronger then, than now

It just seems ridiculous that a secular state with international oversight didn’t seem like a preferable option for those who had control over the situation (the US/USSR)

Tbh I think Gaza just needed to agree with a 2 state solution years ago this is a completely losing war they're never going to ever win ...

It made sense back in the 20th century where they had the Pan Arab unity and soviet support but that was decades ago that s*** is all dead now and Israel is an even more advanced militarized country

Israel doesn’t want a two state solution lol.

Maybe it would have been, but how would that be much different than the British Mandate (which both Palestinian and Zionist groups fought against)? I don't particularly trust either the Soviets or the Americans to be good watchmen of this hypothetical Palestine, only intervening to prevent violence. And again, the issue is that the Palestinians, and certainly the Zionists, do not want a secular/multi-ethnic state (I am a bit more generous to the Palestinians in that they might accept the Jewish population already there, but very obviously they would not tolerate anywhere close to the Jewish immigration of our world).

Unironic ideal Israel-Palestine borders. The worst thing happening today would be occasional Jewish vs Arab riot in Jaffa

Why is Egypt keeping the border closed btw?

If they open, Palestinians will seek refuge, and Israelis will eventually settle in, so it's a choice between facilitating genocide or the end of Palestinian statehood

So they chose facilating genocide? Think the earlier given explanation more reliable

Solidarity means s*** to Palestinians there that love seeing people there that may not be Palestinian but still care about them and informed. I would know cause they told me and made clear how much they appreciated it. Also as wild as it may seem to you at a Palestinian protest as a black person we are treated better than they are in some cases by the police that view them as the threat.
