The b plot (or a plot?) of the season premiere revolves around Paperboy finding that his favorite rapper died, but wasn't announced till three months after the fact.
oh s***
I have been waiting for years to find out what happened at Princeton and I was half right the whole time
blue blood suppose to be MF DOOM
dead for 3 months and manager just announced death and clues on social media for demos and songs
only real niggas know :laughing
Kinda felt bad for that white lady til I found out it was the airport lady the entire time. Earn still petty as hell for that lmao

what was your theory?
what was your theory?
Basically that he was accused of rape by a white woman but he didn't do it
So part of it was right. But it wasn't actually rape but in his words "rape-like" and it wasn't someone he was f***ing.
Ive had that theory since the first episode just because why else would someone like Earn get kicked out of Princeton?
Wait we only got six pages from a two-episode premiere?
BCS thread was pulling like 30 pages an ep

aight so its either a false memory or I can now recall somebody else mentioning it here and there on the internet, maybe on reddit as theory. or maybe it was you itt earlier

I mean it's probably not shocking if other people thought the same thing. It's definitely one of those that'll jump to mine just because of Earn's standoff attitude when talking about it.
But yeah I've been waiting on this for years
Can we talk about Earn being abused by a family member ? That came so left field (not in a bad way) and now I’m wondering if that storyline will pop up

wasn't sure if I heard that right

What gave it away for me was they rapped very similar
It Follows reference for episode 1?
2 episodes in and it’s already better than season 3. This is the ATLANTA I’ve been craving for years…
The first episode was hilarious. I don’t have much to say about it other than the main theme clearly seemed to be the characters being haunted. Al by a dead rapper, Earn and Van by their exes, and Darius by the wheelchair lady. I assume this represents the season being about everyone confronting their pasts. But who tf knows with this show? I was off as hell in my prediction of season 3 based on the first episode lol
When Al was at the funeral, I was also thinking the show may have been foreshadowing his eventual death at the end but I feel like that would be too cliche
Overall, the episode was funny as hell and I died at this exchange:
“So you’re just gonna leave me here to end up like all your exes?!”
“No, I would never let you become one of them… You believe me, don’t you?”
Episode 2 blew my mind, particularly Earn’s scenes in therapy. It gave me so much anxiety I had to pause it multiple times to take a breath and process a lot of the dialogue. The first time was when the therapist asked him: “You’ve alluded it before but never explained: what happened at Princeton?”
For years I’ve been dying to find out what happened to Earn at Princeton. As someone who also had an extremely traumatic experience in college followed by departure, I’ve always been very intrigued by that aspect of his backstory when it was mentioned in season 1. But around S2, I heartbreakingly resigned myself to the fact that we would never find out. But alas this episode…
My years-long theory has always been that racism was a heavy factor and that Earn probably got b****ed out and humiliated by his white peers or some frat dudes. But the actual explanation - his being betrayed and damn near accused of being a sexual predator by a white female friend - was so much worse and was very much like something happened to me fr. But it didn’t happen in college, it happened in high school.
Being branded with a label like that when you know full well you didn’t do anything is so socially and mentally damaging. Especially as a black man and when it’s by white friends that you actually trusted, that s*** messed with me for a long time and my heart goes out to Earn fr
But just after I had processed this revelation, the therapist hit me with another trigger:
“This experience made you feel powerless. Much like when you were abused by a family member.”
And I had to pause the TV screen again. ATLANTA def hit close to home for me with this one. This show is truly a work of art
Kinda felt bad for that white lady til I found out it was the airport lady the entire time. Earn still petty as hell for that lmao
Nah I disagree. I can’t tell if this is a flaw of the episode or actually genius writing, but the characters were gaslighting the f*** out of Earn here
Idk maybe I’m too much like him and still need to heal from my past baggage lol, but I don’t think he was wrong at all. Earn has been repeatedly s***ted on. We saw it multiple times throughout the first three seasons and now we see it’s been a recurring thing throughout his entire life. So his striking back in this episode didn’t feel petty but more like him finally prioritizing himself and using the resources he has at his disposal to take a stand, something few black men in the world get to do.
I feel like Al, Darius and Earn’s therapist did the exact same thing to him here that those white people at Princeton did. They cut his motivations down to sheer spite and completely disregarded his pain.
Earn was screwed over by Sasha in college. And when he took a stand by using his RA privileges to get his suit back, he was punished and made to be the villain without anyone considering his point of view. And it’s the same thing with this airport incident.
By going back to Princeton and taking his family on a vacation, Earn was genuinely trying to take his therapist’s advice and heal from his past. But once again, he was s***ted on by a white lady who damn near ruined the experience. And when Earn decides to take a stand by using his $$ and paying other black folks to give her a dose of what she inflicted on countless other black people, he is once again made out to be the villain without anyone considering his point at view.
Racist white woman tears >>> Earn’s pain as a black man
I’m also
@ Van crying at the airport and making the situation about her instead of backing Earn up when he is being discriminated against. typical Van 😂
My guy Earn should probably go back to therapy but I can understand why he is the way he is and he’s certainly not the bad guy here. F*** that white b****
