According to Van this whole “manic episode” has been building when she decided to leave Atlanta. Since then she has been reminded of Lottie a few times, why when Earn mentioned her didn’t she snap back into reality if that’s all it took?
There was an escalation point that happened off camera whenever she transitioned into this whole meth-planting bread-beating hand-eating French girl. She presumably lost her sense of self at that point. Ofc she left Atlanta to start looking before then but I wouldn’t consider that the start of the manic episode
Bad writing to write in an arc that displays she has a personality disorder? You’re not backing any of these claims up dawg just shouting “bad writing” into the void over and over again
Wym not backing up claims? Literally watch the episode, it’s not hard to see that it’s not good writing. I get some of y’all don’t like to call out ppl you Stan, but sometimes you have to, because guess what? They aren’t perfect and will have some missteps. This episode was a misstep.
Like I said earlier, Vans previous episodes of randomly pushing ppl in the pool and seeming off PERFECTLY displayed whatever tf she’s going through in a nice subtle way. Randomly going 180 with her was simply for shock value and did nothing good for her character.

I tried saying “it seems like the episode fast forwarded by about a year” and niggas was like nahh it’s only been a few weeks, France moves fast, etc.

So you just wanted to see her keep pushing people into pools instead of witnessing a far more realistic conclusion where things have bubbled up to a boiling point and everything comes crashing down and explodes?
She gets in too deep on whatever she was trying to do with finding herself and then it all disintegrates back down to reality when Candace steps in and pulls her out. That’s real s***, not just oh hehe she can push people in pools until she magically gets better.
THAT would’ve been s***ty writing bro, if one day Van was just better and they never explored why she was doing what she was doing or what the root cause was, with no turning point or resolution. Nothing about what was shown was a 180, it was the result of hard acceleration straight down the mental instability path we saw her start down earlier in the season
2 and a half seasons worth of character development for Van yet y’all are confused why we don’t like that they all sudden went a complete 180 with her?
And not the good kind of 180

tired of people taking this show 100% literally
we saw a f***in invisible car hit a bunch of niggas in season 1 but we gotta take this episode like it's real life

I’m not sure if you’re trolling or not. You can go deeper into her troubles and expand on it that doesn’t involve cutting up human hands and selling it to weird white folks. Lol listen to ya self bro “that’s realistic” nigga you can’t name one human IRL that you know that does s*** like that. As least I hope you can’t.
Like I said it’s bad writing, if they subtly showed these elements in previous episodes, which is called “a set up” then the pay off would of landed. But to all sudden say “you know what we gonna suddenly make her sell meth and sell human hands and then tie it up nicely with an exposition dump about mental illness” is bad writing bro.

And y’all still haven’t explained why when Earn mentions Lottie nothing clicks for Van. Yet when a random friend she hasn’t seen in god knows how long mentions Lottie all sudden she snaps back to reality.
Now if this episode is suppose to serve as a sort of fever dream she had, and she didn’t actually do those actions then that’s fine. But still the execution of that is still sloppy.
And y’all still haven’t explained why when Earn mentions Lottie nothing clicks for Van. Yet when a random friend she hasn’t seen in god knows how long mentions Lottie all sudden she snaps back to reality.
I literally explained exactly that in a message above. Full on manic episode hadn’t started at that point, but it was brewing up towards that

So basically she only gives a f*** about Lottie when she’s in this “manic episode”??
And I’m not even saying you wrong if that’s the case, that’s the writers fault for setting it up this way. Which brings me back to “bad writing”

I have actually witnessed an ex-girlfriend with bipolar disorder move to another state attempting to disassociate and escape from her current life, fall in love with like ten different guys in two months, have a complete manic episode and breakdown where she got arrested and made videos accusing on Facebook accusing the police of assault, made a video telling Dylan Sprouse they were meant to be together and were soulmates, got pregnant, got abused and then moved back home to her family with a realization of her reality. Got on some medication and AFAIK completely normal behavior after that period of a few months.
Her attempt at escape escalated and got out of control and came crashing back down. So yeah, something like that. Mental health is a b****.

Lemme not just complain about the writing, lemme actually tell you how you fix it.
First you remove Earn asking about Lottie, because Van being reminded of Lottie takes away from the impact when she’s reminded of her AGAIN by Candance. It hits a lot harder if she actually been so f***ed up all this time that she forgot about Lottie with no reminder of her this whole time in Europe.
Second you give subtle clues in previous episodes. You have a random local tell Van “you’re beautiful you could be a model”……you have Van take a knife and stab in between her fingers (whatever that game is called) Little subtle hints of what’s to come that only connects once the finale airs. They did a nice set up with the wig tho, I’ll give them that, because I’m assuming it’s the same wig she stole.

And all of that sounds very realistic, they should of hired you to pitch that for the finale. Not tryna be funny at all, that would of hit a lot better than whatever they decided to run wit.
Barry Season 3 been dunking on Atlanta S3 since the second episode hope you caught up @twitch

Lmao
but what happened in the show is a surreal, hyper-exaggerated version of that reality, which is exactly where Atlanta shines

I’m on S3 E2 now. Barry so depressed :(

Lemme ask you this, and I know there’s no right or wrong answer but how are we suppose to feel about Vans character now? Just kinda pretend that s*** didn’t really happen? Cus I know in S4 they’re gonna act like none of that s*** happened
Wasn’t it said that Donald wanted to end at S2 and basically only did these last 2 seasons cus of fans and studio asked him to?
I just don’t get how you can feel so confident that you created the best 2 seasons in the history of TV of a show you didn’t even care to continue? Like no one is that talented to say “meh I don’t wanna continue writing this show, but what the hell here goes the best tv show ever”

The tone of the show is so different from the first 2 seasons but I’m loving it so far

Show already top 5 of all time in terms of comedy and this 3rd season some of the best s*** on TV rn so he made heat even when he didnt want to make it
Bad timing=/=bad writing
The only critique I have about the episode despite finding this season to be it's best is that we REALLY waited almost 4 years for this, only to have half the episodes be one offs, while the others are so focused on the other characters, we don't really get to see Earn do his own little thing which is what I imagine others have been waiting for. It comes across as very underwhelming and while yea, you can't expect anything normal from Atlanta, I could see very well why this season turned so many people off.
Season 4 is really gonna make or break this niggas claim of being the best on TV, bc the anthologies help with that though it needs to really be brought all together.
