You know, I actually forgot about that
chet hanks cameo made me cackle but this my last fav episode of the season i fear
The more I think about it, the more I like this episode
It had a lot of heart. And it spoke on how welcoming and nurturing black cultures can be, while the whole time the white parents were talking down about Slyvia and her whole culture even after she was dead
Also showed how children arent born prejudice. And luckily the kid was raised to respect those cultures instead of being like the parents and being ignorant
The way this show (this season in particular) has portrayed "whiteness" is very interesting. I feel like all the white characters have been very bland, oftentimes well-meaning but ignorant, almost exaggeratedly boring in contrast to the black/caribbean cultures they interact with. and yet, in these episodes the focus is on the white characters and their reckoning with their identity. in both this most recent and the reparations episode, the ending is kind of positive/optimistic regarding future generations, yet it doesn't feel super pandering or "all lives matter"-esque. I'd be curious to know more about the writing staff's intention and audience with these episodes
