they should have just given it a different name, called the characters different names etc. But doing this, they set themselves up for failure

and its just a pointless idea to me. People talk about this being more of a drama, but the original fresh prince was also that- but it was written so well it added comedy in it too.

Plenty of serious topics were brought up in the original, from racism, classism, pressure in terms of having sex, single parent families, bullying, homelessness, discrimination for ex cons etc

It doesn't even look like it's trying to be like the original. Honestly, this is the best approach to take for a classic show carried by Will Smith. Imitating it would have been this dumbest idea.
