I was so uninterested in this whole 2019/2020 era
Yeah me too & I’m a raging Frank stan
damn we really coulda got raves across the world
im lowkey pissed cause i loved that vision so much but glad a body of work is coming hopefully
Maybe, but Thriller was a cultural phenomenon on a scale we'll never see again.
oh yeah for sure
it's the worst timeline when it's just a homer radio dj set by him
crying it was loosely gonna be this no way?
That piece of paper simply states that he intents to record an album. This is Frank Ocean we're talking about.

Good point lol I think with how huge albums like Blonde are in a certain scene, people who are in that scene tend to think they’re a little bigger/more iconic in the grand scheme than they actually are
Exactly
It's pretty popular for youngsters that are into RnB and indie music, but it's impact is nowhere near Thriller's, you guys gotta stop always comparing everything to MJ, it's simply not on the same level at all
You'll see
I feel like its closer to Nirvana's Nevermind. Hugely influential, a song or two everyone our age knows. Both would be notable in the timeline's of their respective genres.
Thriller is like, maybe the biggest album ever. Your parents knew Thriller. This isn't that but for our generation it is pretty well known and highly regarded (which is enough!)
So was I the only one that was right when it came to the silhouettes? I was saying for years how DHL, IMR, Dear April & Cayendo were just fun singles he was dropping and not for an album.
i’m excited he’s returning to music but like god damn if that isnt the most pretentious thing he’s ever written
idk man
to me Frank Ocean is just an extremely (emphasis on "extremely") successful indie darling.
not a knock on the man but if people are reluctant to say Drake is our generation's MJ there's no way in hell Frank is on that level or the same galaxy even.
his reclusive nature creates and enhances that illusion but an honest look at his discography and the way its regarded outside of all spectacle will tell you all you need to know.
edit: I love Frank Ocean and I'm just as excited for whatever's coming as you all are.

It would tell me that he is one of the most highly regarded songwriters and recording artists both within the industry and within the consumer base that would listen to any music from his range

I'm addressing MJ/Prince comparisons.
I'm not disputing that and there are a ton of artists that occupy that space and still aren't gonna be able to sell out stadiums no matter how much respect they have.
Was watching this on criterion channel and recognized this line from A Certain Way
I love franks usage of samples/quotes

Love this album, but it seems you guys can barely picture how HUGE and influencial Thriller was.
It was number 1 for 37 weeks on billboard.
Everybody knew that album, from your kids to your grandparents.
