to enjoy certain type of albums you need to be in a certain mood. Going at Kanye like this and it hasnt even been a day lol. Give it some time.

For me I have to connect with what’s being said on a deep deep level. My mood is the surface. When I connect, that’s what influences my mood. For example The rex Orange County album which dropped Thursday night is so much more me right now, I cried to it a few times already.

He should stop making music and focus on that then

I kinda agree, but maybe he'll put more effort into his future project and put out a classic like KSG.

The guy just doesn't care about music like he used to. JIK was definitely made in a week.

I disagree. Music is just a symptom of the man’s inner state itself. I’m not a therapist but the lyrics seem to reflect a guy who’s just as trapped by his big image as before, just uglier about it by pretending he’s so Jesus-like instead of so dope.

Edit: I’ve since come around on this album a lot. See my post on p.4

Let me know if any of you guys can relate.
I think Yeezus was Kanye’s last hard LP because he wasn’t pretending like he gave a s*** about anything other than his image. TLOP, Ye, KSG, Jik are filled with empty platitudes, fake woke, and now Jesus-parroting lyrics.
Is it obvious to anybody else that Kanye hasn’t changed one bit? He still only cares about his image, but now he’s coating it with this “I care more about black people than you do” saintly BS!
I used to feel empowered listening to Kanye because I thought wow, this guy really knows he’s the s***! I know that part of me gravitated towards him because the critics loved him, and I wanted to be thought of in that way. I wanted people to think I was a genius, some miraculous talent that couldn’t be understood. I identified with him so hard that today I can’t even watch his new interviews. I still have a hard time separating myself from what I thought reality was.
It just seems like I’ve outgrown Kanye. It doesn’t even feel right to bash him because I’ve seen through that fake image bullshit.

JIK was a joke and you’re obv lying to yourself if you say otherwise. I’m a Stan as well and that s*** had 1 good song on it, and even the best song on it is pretty trash

What song are you talking about?

  • Oct 26, 2019

I like how every song is blistering with static but the static isn't just hovering around the music, the static is radiating from it

I like how its not overproduced or overly compressed so it doesn't give me listening fatigue half way through the album

I like how its raw and natural

I like how it uses sounds that some people might consider annoying but only because they have an idea in their head already about what music is supposed to sound like. the most solidified the idea in your head is of what its supposed to sound like before you even listen to it, the more alien its going to be. Thats awesome.

Kanyes flow and outsider edge as well as the highly abstract production and flow give this album a unique appeal that extends far beyond any religious or political controversy. He is just good at what he does.

Kanye made an album about his love for god, I don’t understand how jaded a person has to be to not appreciate another’s happiness.

Reminder that time is particularly kind to the reception of Kanye albums. Look at 808s and TLOP (and soon Ye, one of his greatest and most sincere records)

sorry to hear that man :(
but to me man kanye always gonna be kanye.

i really enjoyed that zane and big boy interview yea there were lots of rambling type of rants but i feel like at the core the kanye we all know still shines through.

now i can understand being disappointed about the music (tho I'm not) i listen to JIK and i can see shades of his last 3 albums all in there, its all there man the package might just be different this time, but then again when wasn't this the case with kanye west hes always putting his mind to something and completely immerses himself in that, hes like a sponge where he absorbs everthing around him (think GLC actually worded it exactly like that).

so at this point i just take the ride and see where he takes it next, cause i can always find the essence of the same "old" kanye somewhere along.

  • Oct 26, 2019

Feel the same. He had a good run and I can enjoy the project for what it is, and it's not trash or anything but I think we need to accept Ye's best projects are behind him.

I think it's because he's got a successful billion dollar fashion empire now. He's not just a musician because he's got insane amount of success in a different field.

people who aren’t musicians don’t make music. that’s not how it works

The issue with Kanye is that he is always moving forward and evolving, there’s elements but he doesn’t look back. You refer to Yeezus but those of us that experienced the debut and everything after the process just repeats and new fans come in and old ones are left scratching their heads like I wanna like it but it’s not the Kanye they were introduced to and think they know lol
