kinda furthers my point considering 2013 is right around the time everything became “problematic” and everyone was personally responsible for the edgiest / dumbest thing they’d ever said on the internet no matter how much time had passed since.
Also when the “it’s not my job to educate you” attitude took off. I guess those people found folks who were willing to educate them. Just turned out it was folks who flirted with beliefs like your cranium size and skin color determining your intellect. Kinda sounds like the solution is to be more inclusive and less exclusive
bruh you misunderstand what im saying. i'm not saying that far right ideologies became mainstream on the web in 2013, far right ideologies were ALWAYS popular. Im saying that far right communities which used to congregate irl went online in 2013, its why this s*** has been so much worse since
before 2013, far right groups usually gathered irl through different local groups and recruited in their local communities. they grew and grew until one of the members did some violent s***, created local or national press and the authorities (or the feds if the locals were too corrupt) squashed them and destroyed their movement.
after 2013, local groups became a thing of the past, their congregation were held on forums where they were anonymous and their recruitment was done online too on smaller forums with a large white population (usually gamer forums). now the only irl groups are the ones still alive are the strongest of em (lots of local power, rigid internal structure, full of military men, etc.) like the oath keepers, etc. most of it is done on the web.
