The best part of the game imo is fighting a challenging enemy in combat. Everything in between those fights feels like I'm just doing s***. "Go find these kids around the map", "Run back and forth between these characters so cutscenes can play out", "Defeat these basic enemies hidden around the map". It's legit just chores to extend the runtime

If you borrow that PS5 and have access to Plus, Remake might be worth checking out. Will probably take you about 40 hours if you do most side quests and you can switch to VI whenever you get bored of it. But I wouldn't spend money on the game tbh. Like you said, our backlogs are big enough as it is and we don't want to spend time on subpar experiences

Yup, this is my big problem with this game. I kept thinking it was the mini games, but after spending like 10 hours replaying on PC, it’s definitely the stereotypical AAA bullshit that slows you down. Controlling Cloud in the opening section with Nibelheim burning down, the “QTEs” where you need to turn a valve multiple times with L2, grabbing the mako vacuum thing, controlling Cait Sith with the boxes in the mansion, etc. s*** is so frustrating how slow it is. Genuinely knocked the game down a point or two for me because it is such a slog. Anything that slows you down or gives you less control is probably my biggest pet peeve when it comes to gaming.

Totally agree, overrall i love Rebirth but man did it double down on all the not so good stuff from remake

So many interruptions, needless slowing down of the action, obvious signaling of where to go what to do etc.

Its almost impossible to get lost in this game its crazy, i know people dont like gongaga region but it was such a breath of fresh air for me because it was the first and kind of only area where i had to actually think about what i was doing while exploring

Despite all this i still think the game is great and that's impressive to me because it does so much things that Annoy me but at the end of the day yeah its just really good still lol

Bit sad that it seems révélation isnt really solving any of these issues but oh well we'll see

100%. I've accepted the AAA "crawling thru a tight space" stuff because I know it's essentially a loading screen, but the s*** like the vacuums... why?? Is this supposed to be fun?

Also yeah the Cait Sith portion went on waaaaaaay too long. Also s*** like chasing him around the Saucer. Just so much thrown in there that bogs down the pacing of the good stuff.
