agreed. how we just gonna close off this group to any people down the road who may eventually join.
Can't believe how good those final Beastie and Tribe albums are
anybody else from the 80s pull off that kind of quality this century?

It's a really good album but a few too many songs.
let's be honest 80's rap is for the most part dust
There’s like ten to twenty good albums, tops

Yeah. Few exceptions that I like
But neither of those few are even in my top 30 hip hop i don't think
There’s like ten to twenty good albums, tops
nah theres more
i feel like rap was still in its formative stage in the 80s. too nascent to be considered prolific in the same way the 90's were. not as much output. I feel the same way about rock music in the 60's even though some of my favorite albums are from that decade.
aight now imma wait for someone to school me about how hip hop actually started in the 70's :word:
I think that the formative years of genres can be very creative before a genre falls into it's own stereotypes (imo what happened to rock in the late 50s & 60s). Then again, it needs to evolve and I'd never say it didn't in the 90s when it comes to Hip Hop.
I still get a lot out of late 80s albums by ultramagnetic mcs, epmd, and too short.
We let Madvillainy beat 36 Chambers/MBDTF/ Aquemini
what was #1 / what did illmatic rank?
When I listen to ‘80s hip hop I feel like I’m listening to my grandfather try to rap.
