I revisited New Order’s debut. I used to find it like an interesting transition between Joy Divison and their core sound, but it really isn’t. It’s kind of awkward really. Like their hearts just aren’t it at all. There’s some good stuff on there, but it also feels a bit lifeless. If they simply included Ceremony and the EP tracks released around then, it would be a much more compelling portrait of a band in mourning, finding their voice.
