To the TPAB lovers itt (this is serious). What do you get out of the damn poem outside of the first listen surprise. It's unnecessary exposition and I guarantee his fans could have figured out the concept without needing it shoved down our throat....

for me in general, I am not really someone that is going to go back to an album and jam it front to back. I like making playlists and listening to songs of diff genres. So really that poem was just a first listen thing for me.

With that said, I don't really see how it is heavy handed. Its just a neat addition to what is already a very thematically and conceptually bold and dense work. The only thing that is extra imo is the Kendrick/Tupac interview at the end of Mortal Man but I just skip that song anyway after the actual song is done lol.

nothing the poem is stupid as f***. i dont think enjoying the poem is necessary at all to enjoy the album. i have my music player to cut out the poem parts and 2pac interview

i think tpab lovers like it for the music mainly. not the poem or even the messagery

So we can all agree that the poem is unnecessary then lol what a dumb thing to add to an album

Its a neat lil poem and its repetitiveness through the album honestly gives the album a very major motif that I feel has since become iconic. Anyone can hear "I heard you was conflicted" and instantly be able to tie that back to the album. Also, it is a pretty good poem tbh because it functions as a storytelling device that further adds context to each song from the beginning to end

TPAB is mostly perfect imo and as time passes it really does feel like one of the last times we will ever get a great event old school hip hop album

Wesley's Theory and U are some of the best rap songs of all time

    What does “great event” mean?

I don't like Drake at all but you are absolutely tripping if you think every time he drops an album, its not an event. It is factually the biggest music event of the year.

TPAB is more than just “old school” rap though

Its more ambitious musically but the influences are definitely tied all over to 90s style hip hop as well as the influences behind that era. I think that is part of why it also sounded like an event because it sounded more big in scope than just its influences.

It really doesn’t bother me much but I can see how it can be grating for some.
