Top 5 probs:
Wesley’s Theory
u
Institutionalized
King Kunta
These Walls
Pretty much all the songs match in quality.
yeah the fact Blacker the Berry, You Ain't Gotta Lie, Alright, For Sale? aint in my top 10 is just ridiculous because those songs are all incredible.
I can take or leave For Free or King Kunta but even then they are p good imo

I love the production on For Free and King Kunta has a real timeless sound to it. Definitely my fav single he dropped for this.
yeah Wesley's Theory used to be my favorite but last time I checked it dropped many places. I still like the hook and the atmosphere though but the song itself is a bit pointless musically. Layers come and go without making much of a difference for the musical narrative. A bit like throwing many things at the wall and hoping that most of it sticks.
blacker the berry the best
You’ll come around eventually
even with george there it still sounds like too much of a p-funk wannabe to me

Much of yeezus is like that but kanye's incredibly aggressive vocals (likely his best performance on any album) and the harsh, vulgar lyrics carry that album. The music is the weakest part imo
Though there are some musical highlights (Hold My Liquor impeccable outro and first verse buildup also carried by ye's vocals, the bass-synth madness of IAAG, the collage of samples on Bound 2, the outro of New Slaves). Most of it is just a well-produced mess lol

I feel like everyone involved like thundercats slick bass or Flylo’s unique production stop it from being a wannabe p funk track. It was a great way to start the album and the topics he raps about are dope and sets the album off perfectly.

If it wasn't sandwiched between two other towering masterpieces I would say it was a fluke but obviously it was exactly what it was supposed to be, hard to fathom as that is

I feel the opposite cause Thundercat seems to be trying his hardest to sound like Bootsy

why the condescending end there 'hard to fathom as that is'?

btw Saigon's The Greatest Story Never Told is ridiculously underrated. Really dawned on me this guy got a full album of prime Just Blaze beats and he just went under the radar.
Yes it's a great album

Re listening rn and yeah the random bass warbles def feel super wanky and unnecessary.
Wubb woooo wooo wubbbbbweeerrroooo
I still like the hook and vocals but that bass warble throwing me off now that we're all talking about it
would say my top 10 on TPAB (no way i can do a top 5) would be:
1) U
2) Wesley's Theory
3) Momma
4) These Walls
5) Mortal Man
6) Institutionalized
7) Hood Politics
8) How Much a Dollar Cost?
9) i
10) Complexion
How is the blacker the berry not top 10?
I feel the opposite cause Thundercat seems to be trying his hardest to sound like Bootsy
Fair enough
