    Actually 4 way tie
    Beatles, Everlys, Wilsons, Temptations

Temps have way more classic songs but I'm not sure if they ever reached the harmonic heights of Tracks of My Tears or Ooo Baby Baby type stuff

I guess you missed but this whole Beatles conversation started with me talking s*** on their songwriting on Abbey Road

Even if I the lyrics weren't as interesting on that album they absolutely did the trick as far as capturing a feeling everybody on earth wanted to experience if they spoke English or not. That's probably partly the melodic aspect and the vocal expressiveness aspect tied in together or something. But they were generally a little lyrically sharper when they weren't gobbling mountains of LSD (67) or getting into even harder d**** and a mountain of spite (69). I know this d***gy lore sounds preposterous but they tapped into the motherlode of songwriting when they were cut of from all the d**** in India and write enough top shelf material to release a double album and supplement half Abbey Road.

all their rubber soul through abbey road stuff is basically same lyrical quality to me tbh so i was surprised to hear you think abbey road is so much lesser in that front to actually affect its placement for you

white album, their lyrical opus with masterpieces such as Monkey, obladi, wild honey pie, why dont we do it in the road, good night, dont pass me by

yeah its got a few slower atmospheric ones at the start which was probably controversial at the time but it eventually kicks up a gear and sounds like another peak Santana album

    No

it must have been posted in the thread for 1971 at one point. they got another for 1973 though

for Caravanserai Carlos was definitely taking some cues from what McLaughlin was doing with Mahavishnu (and obvious with Miles Davis' electric band too)

    ill check it out.

Jorge Santanas album, Malo pretty good but not on the transcendent level of Carlos. alot of horns. more conventional salsa or whatever,

Yeah I had a memorably way-too-loud listen to Master Of Puppets to hype me up for the Metallica concert later that day and probably did a lot of damage between the two events St Anger tour
