These werent songs that relied on catchy chorus' so much as lyrics that tapped into the benevolence of the human spirit or what the f*** ever in a generational undeniable way.

i dont see much argument for the lyrics being more important than the melodies tbh i dont think its even remotely close especially considering the early stuff which clearly isnt that special or amazing lyrically but it was melodically/harmonically/w.e. generation gap also might be worth mentioning, since lyrics are the only part of music that actually ages. as time goes i'd think the successive generations of beatles fans see their lyrics as less and less important/relatable

I guess you missed but this whole Beatles conversation started with me talking s*** on their songwriting on Abbey Road

Even if I the lyrics weren't as interesting on that album they absolutely did the trick as far as capturing a feeling everybody on earth wanted to experience if they spoke English or not. That's probably partly the melodic aspect and the vocal expressiveness aspect tied in together or something. But they were generally a little lyrically sharper when they weren't gobbling mountains of LSD (67) or getting into even harder d**** and a mountain of spite (69). I know this d***gy lore sounds preposterous but they tapped into the motherlode of songwriting when they were cut of from all the d**** in India and write enough top shelf material to release a double album and supplement half Abbey Road.
