one of my favorite songs of this decade tbh, studio version isn't on youtube for some reason
    open.spotify.com/track/2AoM295tdV8R81cwY30Xgnzoo

and my favorite song music video I discovered this year this band has so many good songs

    softer music

Fuji Kaze, started out as a piano prodigy but now makes decent pop music

The Joyce story was great too very unsettling, I can see that otherworldly 'Judge' feel to it. I actually pictured the guy to look like Richard Ramirez.

I think you'll like Denis Johnson and yea Portis wrote True Grit which the Coens made a remake of.

Ahh dope that you read it. yeah the weird surrealism is definitely there. stories that have realism with little lapses of non-realism/magic realism have this creepy feeling to them (actually that show Atlanta had some of that, one of the few TV show I really enjoyed) but Arnold Friend being an anagram for "An Old Fiend", that weird moment when his foot resembles a hoof "One of his bools was at a strange angle, as if his foot wasn’t in it. It pointed out to the left, bent at the ankle", and eyes like “holes that are not in shadow but instead in light” and his weird ability to see things that are happening somewhere far away and the way he hypnotizes her at the end. The possible metaphor between the devil beguiling Eve with a shiny mysterious apple and Friend with his shiny mysterious car. anyway won't get too much more into the symbolism. Funny that you pictured Ramirez I always pictured him more like Charles Schmid with the jet black hair.

I'll definitely check out Denis Johnson.

If you like the Joyce story you'll probably like A Good Man Is Hard to Find by Flannery O'Connor. Really similar in a lot of ways.

    Any Brazil stories?

One day we took my girlfriend's grandad's speedboat to a little island with a bar on and he got so drunk on whiskey that I had to drive the boat back. Was f***ing great I really want a speedboat now

But mostly just did the standard touristy stuff in Rio for a week then hung out at the fam's beach house in Angra dos Reis for a week. Was very chill

I’m a bit mixed on the new The Smile record. Some of it veers closer to post rock at points. The meme of Thom moaning vague nonsense is actually kind of true here. There’s not many of his beautiful melodies. It’s a lot of singing as an instrument. The playing tho is fantastic and the atmosphere is strong. Under Our Pillows is probably my favorite off of it. It sounds almost like something Can would have done.

It’s not fair to compare this to a full Radiohead release, but I think it’s a little too understated and driven by “vibe” to be even as good as the first The Smile record. This one is more focused and consistent but there’s definitely higher highs and more variety on the last one. The official Radiohead thread is blowing this album so I’m not even going to bother sharing this opinion in there. Curious what y’all thought?

Well get back to me when you do. It’s definitely still very good and worth listening to. I’m just left a little underwhelmed by the songs individually.
