its the only medium that can do what all the others ones do and then some

The interactivity is often counter productive because it mainly attracts mechanically minded people. It can be usually reduced to a series of systems. It uses the facade of other art forms. Art is meant to be taken in rather than something you actively tinker with.

Ok it's just a bad game then boring as f***

It’s fun when you do this thing where you’re like “I didn’t connect with something therefor it’s bad” well I’m over here trying to be respectable and say certain genres and styles just aren’t for me.

"facade of other art forms" is an odd way to put it. Doesn't feel like that when it all comes together properly. It's like taking a movie, with all the art direction, set design, costumes, story, themes etc and letting you live inside of it. I can't even imagine what somebody from a century ago would think of these modern games.

I agree, but I just don’t think “it all comes together properly” most of the time.

I’m not shunning games. I respect them. I’m just saying personally they’re not my favorite medium, but also it’s just not accurate to suggest games will ever be viewed as art on the level of films, because the majority of people don’t have the time to engage with a single game for 40+ hours to get the full experience. Stuff like the Team Ico trilogy gets close to transcending the limits of what it is, but it’s an obvious hill that needs to be climbed. Games are honestly closer to architecture than they are film.

I’ve played plenty of hard games that I’ve enjoyed. It’s not about running away from failure. It’s less a lack of skill and more a lack of patience on my part. I barely even want to sit down to watch movies anymore. Also I’d rather fail and learn from something that’s ultimately meaningful in my actual life than bang my head against a wall over something that amounts to nothing.

I don’t have a PC anymore. If they re-release Bloodborne on PS5 then I’ll give it a shot.

I stopped playing video games 10 years ago but want to try out that dark souls game some day watched some long video about the existential philosophy of it and seemed pretty interesting. i'm an insufferable snob about this stuff but trying to be proved wrong and find a video game that really serves as true artistic expression and not just a form of entertainment. I'm sure there are plenty of games like this but i really wouldn't know since i don't play them!

yall know how I feel about tv and feel film is the superior art form (i'm also maybe a pretentious hyprocrite about this since I barely even watch tv as well) but i feel like video games have a higher potential than TV to really transcend the spectacle/form of the medium itself

I already explained that I thought the controls were clunky and the puzzles were repetitive, but ok. Also you replied to me saying you think art doesn't age, and in this case, I think it clearly has
Also the abilities and weapon wheel is a tad annoying to deal with
