The amount of folky albums to check out in 1970 is staggering lol
Yeah I used to be more mixed on the 70’s, but the folk and singer/songwriter stuff in the early part of the decade is so great and then all the early new wave stuff in the late 70’s is interesting too. It’s a very fascinating transitional decade. I used to just reduce it to generic hard rock and indulgent prog, but there’s so much more.

Good choice. Whatever it is it’s definitely an 80’s album. I kind of associate the 60’s with summer and the 80’s with winter. Maybe it’s just the psychedelic and baroque stuff fits the summer atmosphere where as the new wave and synth sounds fit the winter atmosphere respectively.

Architecture & Morality is the most winter album to me. Can just picture the icy roads and the snow falling.

1970 might be the commercial peak of folk rock/folk pop honestly, seems like theres a s*** ton. with some big commercial moments like Deja Vu and Bridge Over Troubled Water
feel like there's some sort of triad with hard rock + prog rock + folk rock all thriving after the end of the psych hippie era. some other big ones following shortly after but i feel like those followed in the footsteps of one of the 3

random possibly inaccurate thought but glam rock is kind of a mix of all 3 just depending on whose approach/what direction they came from
maybe light on the prog though except some outliers like Roxy. maybe sparks or something

I dont see much prog but yeah Bolan was a folky who wanted to be a rock star and Bowie was just trying anything for years. Flo being th fad at the time mean HD has lots of acoustic stuff.

ive heard a song or two by these guys but ive been meaning to listen to more since Neil Finn seems widely considered as the goat Kiwi rocker
They’re pretty neat. It’s interesting watching them go from their prog-ish sound to more new wave stuff and then one of the brothers eventually breaks off and starts Crowded House. This a real gem.
