I'll say this, the opening run of I Feel the Earth Move/So Far Away/It's Too Late is phenomenal music. Three straight masterpieces.

Listening to Carole King Tapestry seeing if I should update my list
I'll say this, the opening run of I Feel the Earth Move/So Far Away/It's Too Late is phenomenal music. Three straight masterpieces.
Usually when I listen to the rest I like but don't love it. We'll see if anything changed
I was always lukewarm on that, especially compared to the original renditions. Too far into the cozy James Taylor zone

first song is classic I really like Sweet Baby James when I'm in that headspace but instrumentally it and Tapestry are really tame.
My all time faves that go into soft rock territory (Joni, Nyro, Steely Dan, Fleetwood Mac) were ingenious with their arrangements and musicianship. Some of the safer soft rock that I like but don't love ends up relying too heavily on songwriting with the instrumentation staying tasteful and unobtrusive.
Like I'll put on a few America songs any time but a whole album can be zzzz
Tapestry is just SO good for its writing that it almost doesn't matter. Like this s*** is crazy

Early 70’s soft rock is great. It’s all so warm sounding. It’s why The Lemon Twigs album from this year Everything Harmony is so good. They perfectly capture the spirit and sound of that era.

her versions of those Shirelle and Aretha classics just aren't touching the ogsI guess Harvest and Comes a Time are kinda off kilter soft rock classics in their own way. I just forget to classify him that way when he's got Everybody Knows and Ragged Glory under his belt as well. He's so different.
After the Gold Rush beat the brakes off 99.99999% of the great folk rock albums coming out at the time.
