When you're too busy working to think about your mental health

not saying this applies to you but this sounds like the hallmark of someone who is miserable without realizing they're miserable

I'm not insinuating anything it's just a friendly old man dig

I've literally called myself old on this very page

No one cares that you're 50, we still love you

No I know just saying I like to hear perspectives from people of all ages and countries. I grill everybody I work near with what they watch/listen to, or if they're older find out some valuable geezer perspectives on who the coll bands were back in the day.

I forgot to tell you @RVI when we took a train across Ireland they status with this really old couple and I got into it with the old guy about music and stuff and he had seen Peter Green era Fleetwood Mac, Rory Gallagher, Clapton etc. His wife knew Daniel Day Lewis but she refused to let him talk about it in public so he had to wait till she went to the bathroom to whisper some secrets about how lovely of a man he is in private and this and that lmao. I asked if they had seen The Quiet Man and they both rolled their eyes and said they call that "stage Irish" and people still annoyingly visit the bridge from one famous scene. They both lit up when we asked him about Banshees of Inisherin though which they had already seen four times and thought was an instant classic

I'm exaggerating lol maybe that was me last year but I just finished a big job and I'm having a pretty chill couple weeks right now. I have some anger issues cause of my mom but generally I think I'm pretty mentally healthy. Never been to a psychiatrist sister taking any pills or anything just smoke a tremendous amount of pot.

I feel if you're not miserable on some level you're probably some kind of sociopath

I think everyone is miserable. even if you think you're happy. it's probably an evolutionary/biological fallacy. The profound asymmetry between happiness and suffering.

“Pleasure is never as pleasant as we expected it to be and pain is always more painful. The pain in the world always outweighs the pleasure. If you don't believe it, compare the respective feelings of two animals, one of which is eating the other.”

But even if non-existence is preferable to existence - not an excuse to delete yourself. there are certainly ways to overcome the tragedy of your own existence

A considerable percentage of the people we meet on
the street are people who are empty inside, that is, they are actually already dead. It is fortunate for us that we do not see and do not know it. If we knew what a number of people are actually dead and what a number of these dead people govern our lives, we should go mad with horror.

i enjoy the smell of tobacco and weed tbh

even when i quit smoking for years whenever i'd smell a cig on the street i'd be like

    the smell of cigarettes

only smokers and ex-smokers will understand the glory of it

A lot of stuff going on in my personal life the past few days.

My separation is finally official with my ex moving out of state in two weeks. Still have no idea what's happening with my kid long term and probably won't until May when/if the divorce is finalized and custody becomes a permanent matter.

The news is mostly great in the short term: I get full custody the rest of the year and my mom will be out in Cali to help out while I get the apartment together and look for a roommate. The holidays are going to be a lot of fun with just the three of us. I'm so tired of all the fighting and bullshit and am looking forward to having some peace and quiet to work towards my goals.

I'm getting my own bank account when I get paid on the 31st and once my half of rent is paid I should be in great shape financially. My student loans got paused until February and I'm getting a raise in January too. I can make a clean break with no real assets between us and we've already worked out a child support plan that is being put in writing and works out heavily in my favor. She is living in a cheaper city and makes more money than I do, so basically she just wants me to help out with my kid's health insurance costs.

I feel good, my ex feels good, we're on good terms with each other and overall there's a lot of optimism. We had a counseling session today that ended with a hug and that hasn't happened in a while. All of this is obviously stressful and a little sad but it's for the best.
