This is the problem. People love to conflate a bunch of totally unconnected events and things into a single narrative. Conclusions of guilt are based around “vibes” now. Polanski is guilty — there’s no question of that. It’s not fair to compare these things.

The problem is that he's in a relationship with his stepdaughter. Nobody cares to look that closely at the facts because that alone is gross enough to write him off as a creep.

He clearly is just a rich old f***er that doesn't give a s*** what anybody thinks so it's definitely not worth arguing about.

It's still weird no matter how you spin it

It’s interesting cause the documentary goes over this exact kind of emotional illogical reaction. You’re essentially saying “this guy did something totally legal but very strange based on our cultural standards, therefor it’s not worth examining the moral horror he’s being accused of”. Marrying someone in their 20’s regardless of who they are isn’t related to supposedly molesting a 6 year old. Also her being his adopted daughter in the way it’s implied isn’t quite true either. He hardly ever interacted with her. There was no grooming or anything of the sort. But then again the details of that are irrelevant. I don’t even like Woody Allen as a filmmaker—so I have no investment in this. I just stumbled upon that documentary and I think the details speak for themselves. Everybody deserves their day in court and he’s had it and been found innocent multiple times.

Did I not acknowledge this in my post? Whether or not he was grooming her when she was a child, the fact that he's in a relationship with her now is way over the line for most people so they have no need to really look closely at whether he actually molested a 6 year old.

Okay this is fair. I understand you now. You’re talking general reactions. I misunderstood what you were getting at.

Anyways been watching Star Trek: The Next Generation. It’s very good. The early seasons are over hated. Very fun wacky transition between the orginal series style and what Trek overall would become.

What would Trek overall become? To me Next Generation is quintessential Trek (not that I watched more than a handful of episodes from of any of the series)

I could never get into it. It just looks like a buncha dudes hanging out in a hotel lounge.

Also the aliens like Spock and the guy with the f***ed up forehead look really cheesy and uncool.

They were very cheesy and uncool (especially compared to Star Wars) but the science and world building were interesting if you had the patience to sit through an episode.

A bit more serious and dry. The earlier seasons of TNG are wacky in a way that’s closer to the original series—even going so far as to turn unused scripts from it into episodes.

The Scottish dude James Doohan was actually from Vancouver and was one of the superhero's that took Juno Beach on D-day Canadians pulled through that day

It's ok. The director did alot better with his Blade Runner and Dune remakes imo.

I find it a bit emotionally manipulative, but it’s really well made. I think it’s probably the best representation of a realistic first contact. I wrote a review for it.

Definitely a great film to show someone who either doesn’t really like or is new to sci fi
