i dont think its literally the best thing ever like a few users itt but its just a fire noisy ass rock improvisation. also darkly psychedelic
Same thing can be said about European Son which is much more experimental and interesting.
U been listening this entire time?

About time

That could’ve been a lot better with some variation.

I’ll be happy with the debut doing that, but will seethe otherwise.

id rather listen to the 2nd half of Sister Ray then the second half of 21st Century Schizoid Man

also fire but i think the keyboard in Sister Ray is a key reason why its so good, also adds to it being more hypnotic. they do feel very different for me though for sure in terms of energy and atmosphere

I recall it having more variation than Sister Ray

You’re just trying to piss me off lol

Cale going ham on the vox on Sister Ray adds way more variation that the relentless churning of guitars on Euro Son
You’re just trying to piss me off lol
no i find it really annoying until the riff comes back in
Anyone ever listened to the 90’s band Jellyfish? Borderline cheesy but they pull off their mix of influences well and make pretty fun theatrical power pop.

even you can admit European Son is cataclysmic

I mean it’s the least compelling song on that album for me, but it’s a killer energetic opener. It doesn’t set the mood but it lets you know you’re in for something different. Epitaph is the masterpiece on there.

when prog band veer into free jazz territory or whatever that is
shut up nerds
the rest of the album much nicer

The unpleasant barrage of noise on that towards the climax is at least cathartic. I find it mostly annoying on Sister Ray for some reason and I think it’s probably because the rest of the record shares that texture so it doesn’t come off like an interesting shake up, but a harsher extension of the same.

21st century schizoid man is better

That stuff works incredibly well juxtaposed with the slower ancient sounding moody stuff. That album feels simultaneously like it’s always existed while also being hundreds of years in the future. Almost every prog record after that is significantly more of what you’re talking about, a lot of technical wankery with a lack of melodicism.
