I feel like we've cycled back to the '60s where Hollywood comedy is entirely irrelevant to the youth while the stand-ups and television are getting laughs. Only difference is the '60s had Jerry Lewis while we have... Kevin Hart?

I want to know if you think comedy movies can "come back" without theaters being the main outlet for them. Some people hope the recent horror renaissance in theaters can be replicated for comedy.

The other difference too is all the walking on eggshells we have to do nowadays so nobody is offended. A major studio even moreso is worried about this when financing comedy

The best comedy nowadays is honestly off YouTube at this point. TV ain’t even funny

It's been so long since I've seen a new comedy that I liked or even remembered. I think Bridesmaids was the last one?

The weird al biopic was one of the funniest movies I’d seen in years, if you haven’t peeped that one.

you tryna fight him on horse? All his attacks are easier to dodge on foot, plus I remember him being super weak to bleed dmg.

you may also be underleveled, which big bosses have you beaten besides Godrick & what’s your weapon lvl?

Yeah I just heard it too but I've found that so many unsuspecting artists have a secret lowkey classic Christmas song I'm not even surprised anymore

I think maybe great comedy is a lot harder to pull off as a consistent product than other genres. And you can have a lot of amazing comedians running around but it takes a certain sort of visionary to pull off a classic comedy with them. Even back in day you had your Norman McLeod and Leo McCareys.

This is very true. I just watched the biopic about the founder of National Lampoon and he had like 20 of the greatest comedians of all time under his belt at one point in the early '70s. I think all the visionaries are on the internet and are above long-form narrative-based comedy.

I love all 3 of them. They’re all great in their own ways when you don’t compare their design too much.

Every decade up until the 2010’s had its comedies with recurring actors and directors and what not. Like when you think 80’s comedy you’ll think of Bill Murray or some John Hughes movie or a s***comedy like Porky’s. The 90’s has its own variation of this and the same with the 2000’s. The Apatow era was the last gasp of this kind of thing. Sort of ended with This Is The End.
