Jason Lives is the most overrated one. Still fun but I don’t get why everyone has that near the top of their rankings. It’s too self aware. All the kills are basically gags, it has none of the sexuality of the previous movies, and it’s zombie Jason without Kane Hodder playing him yet. That movie is so smug and detached. The director really thought he was above the material.
5 and 6 are definitely on the low end for me
I'd say 1/2/3/4 > 7/8 > 5/6
The movies lost that grungy, unsettling feel when they switched filming from Jersey to California. I still dig most of them, though
I showed my buddies teenage nephew 4 and 5 recently and he had a blast. Watching those again through the eyes of a 13 year old is wild lol.
lmaoo i bet he had a ton of fun. The crazy thing is, I never even got into these until I saw how much you guys liked em. That means I watched practically all of the sequels for the first time ~3 years ago. Halloween has always been my fav slasher franchise, and my mom loved Freddy so I saw those at a young age. My dad liked Jason, though, and I hated him so of course I never felt compelled to watch the Friday films

oh s*** when did they switch?
that’s something i’d never have noticed on my own

After the second one
I was watching part 2 last night, and when he surprised the wheelchair kid with a knife in the face i f***ing died man
might be my fav kill in the whole thing
Always felt like I was missing out not enjoying those movies but Freddie and Jason etc were just never scary to me compared to Gary Oldman as Dracula

I just thought Jason was cool
After the second one
you know what, the vibes were def different in the 3rd one and i bet that was part of the reason

it’s not supposed to be scary bro. Jason at least. it’s just entertainment

Actually the second one was filmed in Connecticut, but even so it’s still that northeast vibe

5 might grow on you. It’s my favorite at this point. I don’t care that the killer isn’t Jason. It’s a guy in a hockey mask killing people at a camp.

when they revealed it wasn’t Jason, it made me like that one even more. like “huh, that was subversive of them”

The series got progressively cheesier and by the end they're basically comedies with killing
After the second one
I would have guessed after 5. I feel like the first 5 all feel very similar.

I can see 4 and 5, 3 definitely has a different feel though imo

none of em got the effects of the first one though. when the killing in the 2nd one started i was so disappointed coming off how gory and real the kills felt in the OG

Yeah there’s definitely something off about it but it having the same director as 2 gives it a certain consistency.
I don’t agree with 6 being top 2-3 in the franchise, but I’ll admit the opening resurrection scene is brilliant

That’s cause a lot of them got censored by the MPAA. What happened to 7 is tragic.

Totally. It just loses me a little bit after that. Still it’s fun. It just doesn’t feel like Friday The 13th. It’s a bit too cleaned up and mainstream. It’s like Nightmare On Elm St 4 in that way.

Nightmare 3 though
i could watch that one all month straight
