is it hard to qualify for? The New York one you have to have run like 9 races in the previous year or something crazy like that

There are ways for good runners to qualify but for most normal people it's just a ballot entry, basically a lottery. You can get guaranteed places by running for certain charities as well but I think they're hard to come by, and I'd rather raise money for a charity that I really care about.

If I don't get a place in the lottery I'll just do a different smaller marathon. Need to do one before I get too old and my body starts falling to pieces

I wish I could go back in time and tell myself to keep all my old champion and carhartt s*** my mom bought us from walmart growing up (and stock up on even more), cause i would be swimming in resale money right now lol. Who couldve guessed those two average joe brands would make such a big comeback in fashion trend culture

And apparently Wallabees are making a comeback too? Which seems kinda weird cause its like those shoes make a comeback every 10-15 years. They were popular when my mom was younger, then they got really popular again when i was in high school, and now they are apparently rising from the ashes again and making collabs with Supreme and s***

Still tho, the prices are insane. When i got a pair of Wallabees in high school they were like $80-$100. Now they are retailing on Clarks site for $170 — and thats just for the regular tan color and 100 year old nothing new design

Carhartt is never gonna fall off cause most construction/labor workers wear it. That stuff is indestructible. I've been wearing the same Carhartt winter jacket for like 5 years.

Oh i know, i was meaning that Carhartt, like Champion, has been and still is another Walmart shelf staple. My stepdad has been landscaping and trucking his whole life, and he probably buys a couple piece of new clothes once every 5 years.

He will go into walmart and buy 15 carhartt shirts and 6 pairs of carhartt jeans for like $300 total, and still wear those same ones 15 years later.

But then you go on carhartt's site right now and the cheapest jeans or pants on their whole ass online store are $130...meanwhile you search carhartt on walmart.com and the first result is a pair of carhartt work jeans for $50. Like how and why? Lol

Yeah theyve sold it there for years. Like back in high school if you were wearing champion people thought you were poor, or if you wore carhartt people thought you were poor but also worked outside after school.

Now if you're wearing either of those you're on p**** patrol in the hallway

At this point im trying to guess which big box store brand is gonna blow up next. D***ies? Wrangler? Land's End?

I guess it is a relatively good thing that these brands are viewed as "cool" now, since now even poor kids can look cool and not be picked on cause they can go to walmart and get the same brand name for much cheaper than the prices rich kids are paying

I remember D***ies were in style for a while when pop punk blew up. Lots of skaters wore them.

there's regular carhartt which you can find in walmart and other similar stores and then there's carhartt "work in progress" which is what you're seeing online. they're not the same thing.

Oh damn i didnt even realize that. I thought "work in progress" was just a new tagline or something. Well what is the difference between the Walmart jeans my stepdad can wear for 10 years without needing new ones, and the WIP jeans that are 2-3x the price?

honestly probably not a ton in terms of actual quality/material. definitely not enough to justify the price. it's more about the cut/silhouette/details. which is different. if you care about that, the price increase can be worth it. I usually wait til sales, though. wip on sale is easily worth it to me.

d***ies does the same thing btw. they have stuff in big retail stores and then other stuff they market directly to skaters

At least that makes sense a little i guess. But yeah def doesnt justify the price, seems like they exploiting the hell out of modern fashion culture
