Idk you're more clinical, objective and a***ytical about the music. I'm more spiritual about it, going by feel and aura and preferring a vocalists with a deeper well of expression that can tap me into a higher emotional plane or something. Makes the Clapton's and Zappas and Deads hit less hard for me.

Dead reaches the higher emotional plane for me actually, even with the vocals. certain type of spiritual energy to literally become jesus to all those hippies while refusing to even acknowledge he was the bandleader. The Garcia sung and co-written ballads really grew on me and are actually some of the best things they ever did and what really sets them apart from other "jam bands" imo. and no they dont really noodle much on them usually

didnt use to like his vocals much but now i can feel the spirit in them, even in the later years when his voice was mostly gone he had some of the magic. the younger years have a special kind of purity too

feels almost impossible to rank someone like Buddy Holly against Elvis but ill go

You're so weird about Fats Elvis himself called him the king of rock and roll I know he's got alotta boogie woogie to his music and leans heavily into the roll half of rock and roll but you need to slightly readjust your internal labeling cause that's very much what rock was then. So many of Fats songs could easily have Richard singing on them instead and indeed I think they shared Bartholomews band alotta the time.
