Yeah. S*** was scarier than the demon.

Friedkin nails that harsh, cold 70s vibe

i mean theres no deeper subsubsubgenre but if you want to get specific Van Halen is a typical late 70s-early 80s commercial hard rock style band. pop and metal elements

but easiest way to describe is "hard rock"

lame? its lowkey rock's greatest subgenre or at least one of the core ones

@Koala @rise_zero @drjdeponytail @gordon_bombay you guys call it hair metal or nah

    Just metal really

Hair metal is corny s*** like Poison, Motley Crue and Ratt. They were basically the nu metal of the 80s.

I don't see much difference between Motley Crue and Van Halen's debut albums which are both excellent to my surprise

Obviously Eddie was on another level and had his histrionics but other than that

Well all those bands were definitely inspired by Van Halen. They kinda kicked off that whole wave.

Feels like Kiss planted the seed. Another band I'm surprised to find I like.

Is GnR just a hard rock band or glam/hair metal ? :mystery:

I could see them hanging with Motley Crew over Slayer

In the 70s yeah. Van Halen for the 80s and none of the members of Kiss got s*** on Eddie, anyway. Kiss sucks.

Crue debut and sophomore a bit less glammy than they became a bit later as well so thats probably why. Crue also just more metal to me (at that point) and you can hear Judas Priest in their sound while you cant really say that for Van Halen

Crue 2nd album a big step up btw

a pure hard rock band like Aerosmith or something but still some glam elements just due to the time. iirc to people around back then they definitely felt way different to the glam stuff going on and that was partially why they exploded in popularity so fast. part of it was probably due to image but they were seen as more "real" than the glam bands

Dude the hair metal scene was f***ing wild tho, nothing but sex, d****, and makeup :datass: That scene is something that could only happen at the 80's and every cutie loved it.
