A channel I watch just did a Thin Lizzy discography ranking but I can’t imagine that band would appeal to me at all. Anyone here checked out their stuff?
any Duran Duran fans itt? am i sleeping on them?
They’re in my top 10 fav new wave bands. I think I played Come Undone in a Beatsense before.
the way i divide it more is talking about commercial vs. underground hard rock
or just specifying 80s hard rock
I prefer my line of thought 🧐

i think my parents might have had a few CDs now that i think of it

glam metal is one of the fuzziest genre terms ever anyway. its mostly all hard rock and heavy metal simultaneously
some people deny that its even metal which i dont buy into though. its mostly just 80s pop metal. but not all 80s pop metal is glam. and not all 80s commercial hard rock is glam or metal. and tbh some of the heavier glam metal shouldnt really be called hard rock
kinda reminds me of the whole messy "new wave" category tbh
They went hard on these two songs
album is pretty hard so fire tbh. i definitely recognized hungry like the wolf
feel like @Elric would like

A goat hard rock band but rvi and riffsquad likes that stuff more than me

It’s basically a slightly better version of Talk Talk’s debut.

I was gonna tag him but I already tagged him to listen to a jazz song earlier

theyre fire, definitely within the pantheon of hard rock even though they arent one of my top. its not totally brainless like some other hard rock and they very occasionally have some ballads or Irish elements
you might like this kind of stuff from them

not sure what songs those guys would pick but if i made a top 10 list for them i'd have a few ballads

I’m kind of pissed they tapped into that British somber synthpop with Lonely in Your Nightmares then never revisited it

Bro if they used hairspray it's hair metal
I’m still gonna rep that Spandau Ballet joint.
You ever listen to Soft Cell?
I do
i mean the whole album. im sure you probably know like half of it already at least though
they actually popped in my mind because someone compared something to their 90s stuff, and i didnt even realize they kept going until then and were still good
can't think of which other 80s vocalist this guy sounds like most (or vice versa)

Yeah I dig this. Dude sounds like he’s trying to emulate a bit of The Boss.

real ones dont use that term anyway so

New Wave is bright whereas post-punk is dark
Siouxsie =/= new wave
That’s the only difference though since only corporations and nerds make up genres

My boy Rob Sheffield speaks of them in the same hushed tones as Dylan and Beedles so always meant to go deep on them

do you like The Boys Are Back in Town by them? the super famous one. its hard rock but its not really that hard
they probably have like 1 ballad per album like that. sometimes their dual lead guitar stuff is more melodic than a lot of bands too

except when its both new wave and post punk at the same time :ohno: many such cases!
You ever listen to Soft Cell?
Haven’t got around to them other than singles
