if your talking film makers all your dusty directors from Dreyer, Murnau, Tark, Bergman, etc.. Remember that scene in The Lighthouse when Dafoe shoots that ray of light from his eyes, that was literally from that German painting I mentioned in the other thread.

Its not a bad thing, I like Eggs.. But his style is definitely linked to his influences hard.

Yeah but how many people have really seen those films? It's not like most directors these days just say oh Scorsese influenced me and then recreate a style literally everyone already knows well. Biting ancient obscure dust is fine especially when he has his own tangents going on.

its not even biting its just influences. Im not sure how much of the general public knows about those directors but anyone who has an interest in film can pick it up.

Im sure he'll form his own style in the future.

Biting is just how I say influenced by. And i still don't see how those influenced Witch... You'd think there would plenty of ye olde witch movies but I can't think of any, let alone that are that fully realized. One of the best Dreyer's has witch hunt aspects but its nothing like that.

It's like The Magician mixed with Day Of Wrath a bit I guess

Eggs mentioned flicks like Haxan, Cries and Whispers, Blood on Satan's Claw, and even The Shinning as major influences for De Witch.

Don’t really care about if a director bites or not

Having seen Vampyr, I don’t rly see the lighthouse as adding anything beyond better sound design while being far more dull and more pretentious

There's mediocre aspects to Irishman and OUATIH but that didn't stop all of y'all from giving them perfect score. Eggers minimum 5 times better than Aster.

Ok yeah the shining influence was front and center .... Even had willem angrily limp running with an axe Hazan a good reference for The Witch too since they have the exact same m.o. even though one is a doc.

Are there ppl here that consider the last Quentin more than an 8/10?

Only mediocre aspect of Irishman was the deniro kicking scene

Rest of it masterpiece same wit OUATIH

Huge elements of Eggers movies are mediocre

My biggest worry is with Phoebe being added because the marketing and interviews given seem to be hinting there will be some very heavy handed themes of feminism and PC s*** added to this movie

You obviously haven’t seen Fleabag if you think Phoebe is a “heavy-handed feminist”

Yeh haven’t seen Fleabag, but the fact they’re talking about how Bond is not modernized and that this franchise has never tackled his toxic masculinity before, which is just a blatant lie is worrying about how heavy handed those themes will be here

I think they’re gonna frame it in line with Bond’s grief
I don’t think it’s gonna be as obvious as Neighbors 2
