Wore the hell out of Black Album before middle school

@fuk_an_ad_lib here we go fam :ohno:
i think you could definitely get more into black metal and black metal adjacent stuff if you get used to the vocal style. pretty much 0% "show off" guitar in it too rdjeyeroll
i think someone itt already recommended you Agalloch? not strictly black metal at all but more on that side and its been really sinking in for me lately, majestic

RYM tags usually not that good anyway but i think its because singer/songwriter also kind of (broadly) refers to a specific type of sound in a way. and it wouldnt be very useful to give the tag to every solo artist who wrote and sang their songs
like I don't think it would be very useful to have Todd Rundgren, Prince, Stevie Wonder albums under the "singer/songwriter" genre even though they are singers and songwriters
I feel like Rundgren is an ideal example of a singer/songwriter
I feel like Rundgren is an ideal example of a singer/songwriter
but do you think the best way to describe his music is "singer/songwriter" genre?
but yeah like i was saying its not a very good term anyway. someone being a singer-songwriter themself doesnt mean their music falls under the same category as the more traditional singer-songwriter style. its kinda like the word has 2 separate meanings if you are using it to describe a musician or if you are using it to describe their musical sound
Mongo
Why on Earth did you post this at me

I feel like Neil is

Todd is nowhere near what I would call a typical singer-songwriter
That's clearly reserved for the James Taylor's and Neil Young's and Joni Mitchell's

Todd is more like a mix of Brian Wilson and Frank Zappa. Tough to call them singer-songwriters imo.

Not the instrumentalist aspect of Frank though right? Just a wild composer
