gonna be a great album judging from the singles and this track

my biggest complaint about the band is how derivative they are. The first album, while good, was so Slint-eque that you can't unhear it once you make the connection. The new single you posted a few weeks back, while also good, sounds so much like an Arcade Fire song that I can practically hear Win Butler's voice in my head when the bridge comes in. I only hope they find their own unique voice on the new album. But I know I'll enjoy it regardless.

like @RVI their is something endearing about the simplicity of the lyrics. A very obvious theme is conveyed but it's so unpretentious and the melody is so beautiful I don't know how you can't love it.

i still do like it a lot just wouldnt crack a top 30 beatles list

but yeah idc much about its lyrics. theyre fine but just dont absolutely touch me like they do some people. but better than a lot of songs with a same theme where the lyrics are corny or trite or something for sure

agreed, it's hard these days to really develop a unique sound in rock without hearing another band while listening. also got some midwest emo vibes from the first album. but yea it'll be good, I'm liking the AF "chamber" vibes mainly cause there hasn't seem to have been a rock album go in that direction for awhile

    Also mid-late 50s and mid 60s

Not going to lie I just kind of realized pop music is whatever the era needs it to be and we've only been lucky enough to have it actually be rock and roll a couple times

Pop music is whatever the music industry needs it to be to sell records. Also “rock ‘n’ roll” came from country and R&B, which is why it was so dominant until those genres evolved and (mainstream) Rock didn’t evolve in the same way

Thinking about that famous Scaruffi write up on the Beatles and laughing at his claim that they had no real impact or influence on rock music. Lmao. He should stick to writing about what he likes.

i feel this but also id be kind of a hypocrite because how much derivative stuff i enjoy. like ill still love standard black and death metal style albums in 2021 if its made well and not just a trite direct rip off

if the new Black Country New Road album just sounds like a British arcade fire with a different songwriting style, I won't mind if its done well and not rendered useless by arcade fire themselves. i havent heard those singles though, only the first one they released a little while ago

and i certainly wouldnt want to erase all derivative music from rock history
