I mostly agree with the sentiment but the examples in OP are horrible tbh

MUSIC had the whole timeline by the balls for a solid month or two not to mention the year of singles before

The gunna album literally dropped yesterday it might not be great but to say it came and went a day in you're just treating the music wrong bro this is not how it's supposed to be consumed

And the ye cuck album didn't drop lol

I feel like this "came and went" debate always stems from poor rollouts instead of the actual music, you miss the feeling of an event in music, the whole kanye shenanigans n 2 delays before a drop, it's not an argument of good or bad music anymore

A good portion of albums you listed when Platinum.

And the Cuck s*** got scrapped and delayed when the Hitler song got banned on all platforms. So, it's non-canon.

Nah we gotta stop acting like something is wrong with the consumer and admit that life cycles of most media ( it just music) doesn’t last that long.

You’re right about rollouts though, I do think the artist can prolong it a bit ie the new clipse album but for the most part these records are barely charting. Especially in hip hop culture. Have you seen the charts? Hip hop is barely cracking the top 100 outside of like 0.01% of artist.
This year has shown that there aren’t a lot of acts in hip hop that can last longer than a week

  • I mean Hurry Up Tomorrow and Music have been pretty popular still. I'll throw in Bad Bunny's album too because he's definitely major. I don't know how you personally define major, but Tyler the Creator's album is definitely gonna be making noise throughout the year as will Clipse.

Those other albums you listed are all dogshit so that's probably a big reason why they came and went.

Find this really discouraging because you think he rushed it or put it out with filler

No reason for him to drop this without passion

Every song is individual incredible and memorable - hooks on Wake Me Up Give Me Mercy Cry for me are literally among his most recognisable melodies

Only argument I’d consider is that we’re tired of this

I wouldn’t say the passion wasn’t there, it just wasn’t 100%, imo. Too much burnout from tour, the movie, & The Idol and it shows.

Like sure, he sounds good, and the production is nice, but the lyrics & themes make it damn near unlistenable to me. Too drab. A lot of the songwriting feels hamfisted & Hallmark card tier to me.

Baptized in Fear is the best vocal performance on the album to me but I’m not finna listen to a nigga sing about sleep paralysis demons.

I will say that, for me, I am tired of his sound. I thought with songs like Creepin’ & Popular being released during the between time, that we’d hear more 90’s/00’s R&B mixed in with his 80s synth fetish. The only songs that come close (Niagara Falls, Timeless, Enjoy the Show) are carried by production and samples, he’s probably the weakest part. He slick been on this wave forever (really since Kiss Land) but the progression of the sound has hit a wall. Something like Wake Me Up isn’t bad, but we’ve heard it already, and we’ve also heard it done better. That’s really my general consensus on the album, too.

Give Me Mercy, Open Hearts, Drive, & Cry for me are the only songs that I come back to. GMM is one of his best songs ever. Powerful s***.
