Big Machine is an indie label you can't just pick and choose like that lol. Is Bad Bunny independent too?

her deal was structured like she was signed to the label just like Megan, or Uzi, or Juice Wrld bruh, keep up. it wasn’t structured with her independent artist rights interests at the forefront. it was structured like a record deal under an ā€œindependentā€ headline. with this type of deal, I can establish an LLC and use that to facilitate deals with distributors or leverage major label distribution channels while maintaining all rights to my music. nowhere in that does the label or distributor own my music, I can take it all down at any time

pgLang isn’t an imprint of Interscope, it’s a distribution deal that requires a lot of leverage from the artist

Aftermath is an imprint of Interscope through a joint venture, a 360 deal

that’s one of the big differences in these deals, not ā€œhe got $50 millionā€ lmao

indie means owning your music and doing it all yourself but once a major’s infrastructure touches it, you’re independent in name, not in fact

Yea, you either own/control everything, or you don’t.

Yea, you either own/control everything, or you don’t.

I dont think its binary. Creating a body of work without financial backing and owning the masters and publishing for it still makes you an independent artist to a degree regardless if a major distributes it.

and everyone can pirate everything and we can go back to no one making money off music like it was pre streaming

Gift and a curse because in those days labels used to shelve artists all the time when they believed they wouldn't recoup so the artist would be stuck and eventually forgotten about. With streaming labels don't even consider that barrier anymore but it's cheapened the art to garbage, bots and artists making even less than what they would have
